Hello all, my name is Bill and I live in the Charlotte, NC metro area. I like bass fishing, just not as good at the catching part as I would like to be. I am currently biding my time until March 1st when the Monroe, NC municipal lakes open up again, Lake Twitty in particular. Anyone else fish there? If so I would like to chat. TIA.

Welcome! Get your line in the water, that’s where the fish are! The more you go, the longer you fish and your lure is available the more you are likely to catch a fish! RJS

Thank you to all that welcomed me. I have been a fisherman since my father took me as a young buck. (A looooong time ago) I mostly beat the banks until my now deceased father in law gave my wife and I his 14 foot fiberglass V hull with a 15 horse 2 stroke Evinrude. So we have been on the waters with it since 2014. The boat part is what is new, never having owned or had access to one before. It seems ironic to me that from the bank you try to cast out as far as possible, but from the boat you cast toward the bank a lot.
I have read many articles, watched youtube videos and a bassmaster tournament winner I had the privilege to work with in Asheville summed it up best. "Those are just people trying to sell you something". You would think that purchasing more equipment and tackle would equate to catching more fish, but I have learned that is not necessarily true (as tempting as that is). I like this format very much and look forward to extracting some of your knowledge.

Redial: yep! All the glitter, spinners, etc. in tackle stores is there to catch the fisherman, not the fish. I caught my first cat with a willow pole I cut on the river bank, cotton cord for line and a hook! Thing I used earth worm for bait! RJS

As I slipped my finger slowly inside her hole, I could immediately feel her getting wetter and wetter. I took my finger back out and within seconds she was going down on me. It was then that I thought to myself, "I really need a new boat".
