Quote from Smokey - " May as
well ! I'm gonna be in trouble
when I get home anyway !"

Looks/sounds to me like a
definite case of - 'Open mouth, insert feet, chew vigorously' !

Well, BB, it got even worse from there. When I got home the wife was ready; fuzzy bathrobe, fluffy slippers, hair in rollers, arms crossed.
"Drunk!" she said.
"Me too!" I answered.
"Well come on" she said. "Let's go to bed."
"May as well" I said. "I'm gonna be in trouble when I get home anyway."

I'm sure she accepted that reply as acceptable Porky

My father use to tell me about my grandfather on Saturday nights he would go to Cedar Key and get drunk. My grandmother would leave some potlicker (the water from cooking greens) on the stove for him when he got home. Well the next morning my grandmother called to him, Raphael how come you didn't drink the potlicker when you got home. He said, I did. she said no you didn't you dank the dish water I had setting next to it. My grandfather said if he could not tell potlicker from dish water that he would never drink again. He was good to his word. True story

Potlicker is what us southern people call the water that is used to cook greens. After the greens are eaten the water left is called potlicker.

Thanks. I looked it up. One dictionary said old slave terms like slopping up potliquor with cornbread. another said. A stray dog. Very interesting. I never heard that term and in from the south. Been around a lot of Gulla speaking people. Still learning at 68.

Gives a whole new meaning to green tea for sure. Better things to drink come from the South than that I'm sure. Tennessee is still part of the South ain't it?
