I have been fishing for many years since about the age of three I haven’t done much freshwater fishing made a salt water and brackish I have caught fish on anything from spinners and jigs and in the cut bait and live bait area I’ve Caught fish on just about everything even bubblegum and McDonald’s sausage patties however I have found the best bait for this type of fishing in the spring ,grass shrimp ,blood worms in the summer blood worms and the best bait is either peeler crab or soft crab The fall of the year however is really pretty good with using minnows , cut bait or nightcrawlers catfish really love them .So my friend there’s a lot to learn out there about fishing but a-lot is trial and error So I guess what I’m saying is there is no real best bait just what is working that particular day . Drop a note if you have any questions Good luck

Hi guys! I'm pretty new to fishing, although I have started quite a long time ago.. just haven't been practicing. My father used to take me to fishing trips when I was in my teens, and I have to say it was definitely a very lovely experience. I have recently gotten more into fishing out of my own initiative now when I'm in my 30s, but let's be real. As long as I like it, I'm totally clueless about fishing. I'm reading the forums though, checked some articles and even got a book about fishing for beginners. So my knowledge will surely improve as the time goes, but as for now I am literally green.

That said, I wanted to ask you guys what do you consider to be the best bait? I know this is a very broad question, that it will be hard to give one, definite answer to, but would love to know what veterans think in general.

Thanks!

It is funny, the best bait is the one you catch fish on. Let me explain, I have a tackle box full of hours, but I only have faith in one lure. Because I have caught fish on it before. So that is the lure I use, work and cast with. Of course, it makes a difference what kind of water your fishing. Brush, weeds, lilly pads, an remember presentation is the number one issue, Surface plug for weeds an pads, Sartruse, needles an retrieve erratic an slow, splash an make noise, A injured minnow for bass in 5 to 10 feet of water with lilly pads an floating weeds. You'll find open pockets in pads and weeds. Be quite an cast injured minnow to open pocket, let set 30 sec, twitch an jerk just about a foot, let set an move, 9 out of 10 times the water will explode, The best time to fish like this is in the evening when the water is like glass, no wind or breeze. A small boat you can roe. Do this an you will have fun, Remember, let him go to grow bigger an fight another day, Ray the boat

Your right it is a broad area, with no correct answers, because your looking for an opinion. I believe there are many "best lures". Depending on what the fish will bite better at that moment you happen to be fishing for them. I call myself a bass fisherman first, so in this type of fishing, my favorite or "best" lure to use is the plastic worm. It is very versatile and can be rigged many ways. It comes in every color that you can think of as well as all different sizes and lengths.

In my experience, if I only had 1 bait, it would be a 10” plastic ribbontail worm. There are many ways of setting it up and different weights to make the fall faster or slower. Over the years I’ve learned some unconventional ways of rigging them and if someone saw, they would laugh......until there’s a fish on the line. I try not to use it a lot because I’m a swimbait fisherman at heart. I know that if I start catching a lot of fish instead of one big quality fish, my day is spent unhooking and releasing fish lol. I keep one rigged and I always keep my eye on it, but resist the temptation.

It really depends on the fish you are targeting and what time of year and what bathe fish are doing !! For bass jigs and senkos along with finesse worms are amazing but they slow down tremendously in the winter then it would be jigs , hair jigs , suspending jerk baits, blade baits , dropshot and shaky head but all these baits work all year also , the colder the slower you fish and slow your presentation down alllot!!! But then you also have crankbaits, swimbaits, spinners, chatterbaits and swim jigs that also are amazing , so it’s a very broad topic as you fish you will end up having your favorite baits !!!
