Recently had a sore throat and determined I had a sinus infection/head cols with a lot of drainage which I figured caused my sore throat, so I took some Benzedrill for a couple of days to dry up the drainage and the sore throat went away.
It's home remedies for me
(preferably); I have other issues
that benzedrine and other such
meds don't agree with ! Sometimes they'll raise my
blood pressure and/or make
my heart race (palpitations) !
Don't (currently) have a heart problem; don't WANT one,
neither, nor take a chance that I could trigger one ! Already made
it about twice as far as I'd ever expected; at this point, I'm just tryin' to keep the ball rollin' !

My wife swears by Rock and Rye liquor. Old remedy

I use to drink a lot of whisky on the rocks and it would stop my cough. I guess I'll haft to try something else if it gets bad like it was then. For now it's not too bad at all . Thank goodness.
Although not a whiskey drinker,
a doctor (shrink) I was seeing recommended it; he told me
(jokingly, I thought) that since
most cough syrups were
predominantly alcohol-based,
that a shot of Rock and Rye
three times a day would do
as well to control my cough !
Not being a fan of the taste
of whiskey, I wasn't sure which
tasted better/worse to me !
Bye the way. The cat "Cooter." Pretty darn good looking cat.

Hey BigA, I was just the opposite. I love the taste of whisky so I stopped drinkin it 2 years ago. Haven't touched a single drop of HARD stuff since. Thought it was better to stop while I still could. Drink a few beers now and then but NO hard stuff.

Thank you Smokey. Telling him he's a handsome boy is always good for some cuddling.

Well Mac, he IS a handsome boy. Cuddle him while you got him. Had to put my old guy down 6 years ago and I still miss him.
Say, Saw ! My folks and
grand-dad used to have
our relatives come by about
one Saturday evening per
month to play cards; most
drank beer, but some drank
highballs or Seven and 7
(Seagram's and 7-Up) ! Around
age 15/16, I started sneaking
sips out of unattended beers
or cocktails, mostly out of
curiosity about the taste !
Was a few years later that I
finally acquired a taste for beer, but never for whiskey drinks !
A few years later (still), my folks and grand-dad let me try wine
coolers (not the bottled stuff;
usually muscatel and ginger
ale on the rocks), and I slowly acquired a taste for certain
wines ! When I reached 21 and started clubbing, I tried damn
near every liquor on the shelf, including stuff like sake, ouzo,
gin/sloe gin/vodka drinks,
flavored brandies, etc.; earned/ suffered through my share of really nasty hangovers, so I've paid my dues ! Surprisingly, tequila drinks are my favorite, as I've never gotten sick or much more than a mild headache in the morning ! Like doing 'shooters' occasionally, but prefer a really good, well-made margarita,
either frozen or on the rocks !
Bud Light at home, Coronas (with
lime) in the summer, or a nice frosted mug of Dos Equis Amber (also with lime ) if I'm out for Mexican food, or just with chips and salsa ! Other than coffee or tea, I like my Pepsi, Iced tea,
beer, water and milk ICE COLD !

I like the dark beers like stout and porters but due to the meds I have to take I can't have them any more. When my wife was diagnosed with cancer I said to hell with it and drank a glass of burbon. I survived. The doc sez the damage is slowly done but faster than normal.

Sorry to hear that Mac, my wife likes dark beer, but also shouldn't drink because of her meds. BigA, you sure made me thirsty, I love the taste of Te kill ya too. Course I like most of the ones you listed axcept ouzo. Never liked the taste of licorice. Still, just gotta say no thank you. I don't wanna get started again. Might not be able to quit this time. Pre diabetic , so also need to be mindful of alcohol consumption and diet. Not the greatest when it comes to diet.
Saw, if you ever get over to Fort Bragg there's a brewery there, North Coast, that makes some truly delicious dark beers. Old Rasputin Stout is one of my favorites. All their beers are pretty darn good and you can buy them right there at the source. Fort Bragg's one of my favorite places to hang out on the coast.

Yeah, an old fishin partner and I use to go salmon fishin over there. He moved over around Lodi and I haven't been over there, FB, in years. We ought to go sometime.
Did you go out on a boat or surf fish?
