jb603, I'm with you on this. Dying from tetanus is really a tough way to go. I'm not completely heartless so if you get word that our fellow form member has gone over the great divide I'll chip in for flowers. I might need to change my ways as a lot of the lures that have hooked me came from flea markets & garage sales.

I recently got a fishing pole, reel, and hit the water to begin my adventure. I was given a chatter bait by a gentleman who sold me the pole. Today while I was out fishing, I stabbed or hooked myself with the chatter bait and it drew blood. What should I do or can I catch anything? Please help and give me some advice since my paranoia is eating away at me.

I started fishing when I was 10 years old. During the last 62 years I've stuck myself more times than I can count. Never had any trouble behind any of these accidents. Wash off the wound and keep an eye on it. Any sign of infection see a Dr. In the mean time don't sweat the small stuff.

Go to a doctor and then sell you fishing equipment. Way to paranoid to fish cause your going to get stuck by hooks if you fish. I think most of us have been hooked several times. Don't know about the rest but I have only loss my right hand, my left leg and both eyes. lol Relax and carry a first aid kit or some whisky with you. Drink half a bottle and them put a band aid on the wound. lol

If your teeth starts to chatter go to the dr. Be glad it wasn't a jerk bait.

I have done this many times. Never worried about it. Cut myself and had more and worse injuries from a lifetime in the construction business. Many of them never went to the doctor. If you're worried get some antibacterial ointment,,that's what I did if I thought there would be infection

It probably is. Paranoia used to be considered a mental disorder and was treated professionally. Nowadays, paranoids self-medicate, fret over the tiniest aspects of life and walk freely among us. Some even go fishing. For the most part they're harmless. Irritating because normal people can't understand their fears, but harmless.

I recently stuck myself with a lure when I took it out of the tackle box. In a coupe of days it festered up, took a knife point to it, drained it, wiped with hydrogen peroxide and went on with life. I could tell you I died but you probably would not believe me as I am writing this and have to be alive to do it. I really do think I would be more concerned about a cow falling out of the sky and landing on me.

I got a small scrape from a dog's claw and it became infected. I got a tetanus shot and reacted to it a week later with Anaphalactic[sp] shock. I was allergic to the serum but was advised later that I did the right thing. If you have infection do something to cure it.

Next time it happens just remove the hook grab the puncture sight and squeeze. Hard. Make it bleed. The more the better. Just Don't drain more than a pint. Your eyeballs won't for right if you do.

The idea behind making it bleed is to flush out any wee beasties that got in the wound.
