Seriously Jonas, welcome to the forum. Update your profile with your location so we know where you're from. I've never been there but Mike Ikenelly (I know I spelled it wrong) catches fish out of central park. I've seen him on u-tube. So there are fish to be caught. Small swim baits and such should work. Good luck and tight lines.

I too welcome you to the forum Jonas. Every time you do something wrong you know what not to do next time. The important part is to enjoy yourself. You'll find a winning combination, if you post what you are fishing for, you'll get lots of help here on the forum. Keep fishing, don't give up, it's worth it just for the time spent.😃

Everyone gets skunked,it happens all the time and sometimes the weather can play a big part of not catching anything as fish can get lock jaw at times. Everything from the position of the moon and the movement of the tide can come into play big time so some days are just no luck days and it happens to us all.

Almost anywhere along this 1.5-mile shorefront park, you can fish for striped bass, flounder, black sea bass, oyster toadfish, and even eels. Be surrounded by the city as you fish for pumpkinseed and bluegill sunfish, largemouth bass, and carp.

Welcome Jonas!

FW or Salt?
Jersey and Connecticut offer some great trout streams and Lakes & ponds if you’re gonna try freshwater or a party boat out of sheepshead bay if you’re saltwater fishing

Welcome Jonas. I’m new to flyfishing myself and I come back from a lot of day trips without having caught anything. But I kept watching YouTube videos and learning and now I’ve caught fish on my last two day trips. When I was fishing with my dad 55 years ago as a kid he always told me “patience is the key”. As a kid, I had none of it, lol. As an older man, I’ve plenty and it is paying off. If you stick with it, you WILL catch that first fish and when you do, you’ll be as “hooked” as the fish itself.

Are you fishing from bank or boat. If from the bank, you need to know what fish would be near the bank where you are fishing and target that species. If no fish would be shallow this time of year in the water you are fishing, try somewhere else. You will have more success if you target a specific species.

Greetings and Welcome to the Forum: I don't know your financial situation, but one way to get better acquainted with your area is to hire a guide to take you fishing. Carefully observe all, tackle, line, lures, areas fished, ask questions like a 6 year old boy! Also, ask about what they would recommend for you to go bank fishing. They will probably be willing to give you good advice since they didn't start as a guide with a boat and clients. Since you have water all around there has to be some places to be successful in "wetting a line"! Good luck and keep pluggin!
