Since you worked for that many years it means you are a charter member of the old farts club! I'm not so sure I've made it that far yet. I think I'm just a old coot!

Well, I started working summers with my dad when I was only 8 years old. He was the supt for the const. co. That was in 1962. We worked for that co. till about 1975 when interest rates started going up and new construction slowed down. In 1978 Dad and I started our own company doing remodel work. I did that till I retired in 2017. So if you do the math, you’ll see that I’m a 65 year old fart. So old I don’t even stink anymore!!
Hohoho. 🎅🏻

I started in retail working for my dad when I was 13. Two years after you started. I quit just las year. Went from retail, to service business to trailer park maintenance. Lots of stuff in between. I used a table saw to trim a fingernail once still have no feeling in the tip of that one, have fallen from heights more times than I care to admit but that's the way my old back has crumbled. So I actually worked only 54 years so I'll settle for old coot. FOR NOW, Lol

You got that right. Vince Lombardi once said: “Honesty is not the best policy; It’s the ONLY policy”
I have told prospective customers, while bidding a job:”I’m not the cheapest; just the best”. 80% of my jobs came from repeat business or word-of-mouth referrals.

Up to a point it really does. Candy bars were a nickel apiece, weekly allowance was a quarter and a banana split at the DQ was 50 cents.

When I was 13 I bought my first electric guitar. I paid $ 100 for it, making a quarter an hour. That was in 1967.

In '67 I too was 16 got $50 a month for clerking/cleaning the drugstore after school and weekends. I too was rolling in dough. I have never made plumber's wages though. It wasn't until I started doing plumbing work that I found out why plumbers get paid so highly. You're worth every penny of it Plum.

Its all in the customers I found Gray. When I went into my own business and kept expenses down I was able to pass on the savings. Did not even come close to what is being charged then or now. Customers appreciated the good work and prices that were far better than the competition. Especially liked this time of year when I could tell a customer that was on my nice list, that there was no charge today.
