Any recommendations for a large backpack or duffle bag style tacklebox?

I've got alot of tackle. And the thing I hate the most is not packing that one specific lure that I think will do better than the countless others that are basically the exact same thing that I already have on me.

Can anyone recommend a large backpack or duffle bag style tacklebox I should look into? I'd prefer it be able to hold 4-5 trays and be able to store some extra fishing gear. Like pliers, knives, clips, line, a couple small cases for terminal tackle.

I know it's going to be a huge pack. That's what I'm asking lol. As much storage as possible and still being portable.

Thanks everyone.

If I may ask, why do you want to carry so much tackle? I ask this because I once used a large backpack and carried tons with me but it became to be too much. Having to take it off to sort through my baits plus the weight itself. Now I just carry a chest pack with exactly what I need for my trip. The only time I use my backpack is when going on multi-day excursions and even then I seldom use most of what's in it. My chest pack holds a 3700 size Plano double sided box and I fill that with the baits and terminal tackle I will need. I also carry pliers, bags of soft plastics, leader material, hemostats, a line cutter, small first aid kit, and a water filter in it.

Just be mindful of your back. It's no fun lugging around all that gear through brush and undergrowth for miles to your favorite fishing holes. If you're going to be mostly stationary, a backpack is plenty good.

Yeah im well aware of back issues. I have a few discs that have seen better days. But I want a huge, carry a shiiit ton tacklebox for the lake trips or when I'm on my pond hopper alone. Like when I have the room. I just hate thinking I left something useful back at home. But for the pond trips where I'm trekking through brush, my tacklebox right now is perfect, and I even have my brothers old one that's smaller that I could use for those trips. But yeah, back pain is a bitch lol.

My back got beat pretty bad from a car wreck back in '04, back pain is a bitch for sure lol. I still take my backpack when I'm out fishing docks or piers, holds a lot of stuff, probably not as much as you want to carry though. I have the Allen Gunnison, it's pretty cool because it's a modular design that lets you add more smaller packs to it if you wish. Mine integrates with my vest seamlessly as well as my chest pack. Nice piece for sure.

You can always get those rolling backpacks you see some teachers use. It’s basically two milk crates on wheels.

5.11 RUSH72 holds a ton of tackle and other gear. Awsome organization as well. Very durable. Been using one as a tackle bag for a few years now and treated it roughly. The side pockets can even work as rod holders if you have a 2 piece rod. Depending on your budget this is the bag to get in my opinion.

Sounds exactly like what I'm looking for. I'll have to look it up. Any idea on price before I get around to it?

It is 170 USD on the official website. Not an inexpensive backpack but this is something that will last forever, is very high quality, versatile, and can carry more than you would need plus additional gear. It is tough also. I bought a second one recently to use as a tool bag. I've been recommending this pack for a long time.

Damn. Well if it's going to last forever then it's gotta be worth that price. I'll be looking at it later on when I'm drunk at the bar. So I might end up impulsivity buying it. Thanks for the recommendation dude.

Np. There are a lot of other tactical type backpacks people use as bug out bags and things of that nature which are much cheaper. These types of backpacks in general are perfect to use as tackle bags. I've really only ever done bank fishing my whole life which sometimes includes a bit of hiking. Having the tackle I need plus additional supplies is crucial along with durability and proper fit. Being able to have everything organized and quickly accessible is also important.

I also use a satchel sometimes which I refer to as my tackle purse. Holds a lot but is a pain to carry long distances and dig through.

There are a lot of factors to take into consideration.

If possible, check out military surplus stores. Used rucksacks and other gear would be much less expensive and you could somewhat customize something with the MOLLE system or old ALICE packs depending on your needs.

Good luck.

I use two Plano Hydroflo Tackle organizers. They hold a ridiculous amount of tackle. One is strictly for storing crankbaits at home, the other I actually fish with. I think it holds 6 3700 series storage boxes. I break my gear down by techniques based on time of year. Then I pick 6 for whatever outing I'm going on.

I bought a cheap duffel bag from Walmart for $10. I think it's about 18x10x10 and it holds my four or five 3700 size tackle boxes. There's enough room for a couple hand towels too. It has a big pocket at the ends where I keep pliers, nail clippers, knife, flashlight, plastic bags, etc.

I'm looking for a duffel style bag designed specifically for fishing like the Plano Weekender only because I mostly fish out of a kayak and my Walmart duffel isn't waterproof at all, but you definitely don't have to spend a lot to get a very usable tackle bag.
