I used canoes. Still have them. One needs some repairs from hurricane limb damage. I can say they are quiet. But, I'm to feeble now to carry that around. I think the small one is about 75 pounds. Add all the mess I toted with it and it's a bit over bearing. I changed to a JEEP and can't , or haven't changed anything to haul the canoes with it. Basically I'm lazy <chuckle> To many snakes around me down here. A canoe gave me enough space to re route them if they wanted to come aboard. Kayak not so much …

Snakes are plentiful here also. Later summer started taking my 38 with a rat shot loaded and ready. They must of saw me coming didn't see one at all. Come spring most likely a different story.

Down here Bob, they will "drop in" from over hanging branches. Some are comical. They "see" you coming... cross in front of you... swim along farther bank, then slip back over and approach from behind. I carry 22 with snake shot. Now I have a pellet pistol with air power... should do it...

I stand mostly all the time in my yak water chop permitting and only once did one do what you say. Tried to sneak in from the bank and just happen to turn around. Little scat wouldn't budge until I hit him with the rod tip. That was before I started to carry my 38.

You know plumbob, how many folks would be surprised in the size of fish caught in skinny water?
