In the vernacular of Oregonian skiers, a "snowsnake" is that elusive and always unseen force that "grabbed me by the ankle", thus the reason behind my falling...."couldn't possibly be anything else,....I was skiing perfectly !" Lol !

Your making me exercise my brain OZ. It was not a snipe. It was a woodcock. Was a long time ago. But it tasted good. I think.LOL

Good thing it was not a shuttlecock, this could go back and forth for sometime.
I thought you were saying you shot a bear by the side of a pond. Reminds of the night I was out catfishing in the canals by the rice fields and heard a mama pig and her babies rustling through the brush. I got in my truck quick as I could get my gear together and the next day went to the sporting goods store and bought me a sidearm. .40 Ruger. Now when I fish, I carry. Lot of people out here in California don't know it but if you are fishing or hunting it is legal to openly carry. Unless you're somewhere where it's illegal to carry at all. Like a national park.

OZ. I know I've seen those little buggers running along the shore. My dog used to have blast chasing them while I fished Imperial Beach.

Snipe hunts are where the term “left holding the bag” originated. You give the target a burlap sack to hold and the rest of you spread out to “look for the Snipes“. Then you all disappear!
Glad to report that I remember the snipe hunt on the "mini-series" Spin and Marty on the Mickey Mouse Club. Anybody else? Was anybody else in love with Annette? Oh my.

Or what a trouser snake turns into in sub zero temperatures.
