For those of us who enjoy a wee nip now and again. When you're sitting around on a chilly wet night and you're wanting a little something to warm your bones other than the fire, what's generally close at hand? What's your preferred spirit (love that word) to pour in your nog? I am generally a scotch guy. I shot or two of Pinch serves me nicely. If you are a scotch drinker and you don't know of it, seek it out, I think you will find it very pleasant. I once tried to kill my self with Jack Daniel's, and have not been able to abide even the smell of it ever since. I am not fond of bourbon. And I am not shy about my tastes in that regard. So when my son-in-law bought me a bottle as payment for doing his taxes one year, I had my doubts. Like Paul (my name is Paul), the scales were lifted from my eyes. The bottle was Booker's. Made by Jim Beam, it was at that time, the personal stash of Booker Noh, Beam's head distiller. Oh my. This is bottled at barrel strength, in this case 137 proof, and you would never know it from tasting it. Very smoooooooth. And caramel. And vanilla. This is what whiskey is supposed to taste like. So I have a bottle of Pinch and a bottle of Booker's in my cabinet. I don't drink a lot. But when I do, I like to drink well. How about you?

Good stuff my friend! I enjoy those too. If it's chilly and I want to warm up and I don't want alcohol, my go-to is ginger beer. A Moscow mule without the mule, know what I mean? Squeeze of lime juice, little bit of mint. Making myself thirsty.

Yo ! Oz! We really must be brothers from different mothers; I also LOVE those two, but my daily go-to is Pepsi, or occasionally a ginger ale (Canada Dry) ! Hard to kick a 50-yr. habit, but doc says I have to at least cut back due to borderline diabetes, and that it and the Ibuprofens for my back are creating havoc with my
liver ! - Old age ! Ain't it fun ?

Damned docs will find your vice, even if it's a piddly one like Pepsi, and tell you to knock it off. Oh you enjoy a cup of coffee in the morning with a Camel or two? Guess what. OK no Camels, no coffee. A strip of bacon with my eggs? You gotta be kidding me! Between the doctors and the preachers, we don't stand a chance. And I didn't even mention our wives. Give me all you money and get back to work! Is it any wonder I drink? It's a wonder I don't drink more. Just kidding guys. Life is good and I have a wonderful wife. Tell me more.

That's not to say I don't imbibe;
my current preference is tequila - sometimes 'shooters', sometimes margaritas ! Most common home drink is Bud Light, but like Dos Equis Amber with Mexican food, all in strict moderation ! Long gone are the days when I'd get up in the morning complaining
"MY HAIR HURTS" !

Hussong's Cantina in Ensenada, Mexico. Lick the salt, shoot the mezcal, bite the lime. Eat the worm. 1985. Salt was being licked, limes and things were being bitten, tequila and mezcal were available in vast quantities. Worms and more were being eaten. Talk about the lost weekend. Thanks to fish tacos it was not a total loss. My tequila consumption is now limited to a very occasional shot of Patron silver. And I avoid the lime juice because that's just asking for trouble.

I like someone out of the hills clear and in a mason jar. Or if it’s brown it’s got to be crown.

I've had some 'shine that was pretty doggone good, and then I've had some that was god awful. You gotta know what your doing if you mess with that stuff. I'd stick with the crown myself.
