When you say graphite most cheaper rods contain a graphite mix thus they are tougher !
A fine 100% graphite rod made by. Reputable company will hold up just fine ! They are much lighter , far better tapers , much more sensitive due to weight reduction , they will cast a wider range of lures as well ! Many have titanium guides that hold weight way down so blank flexes without added weight when cast !
Nofhing compares to a well designed true graphite rod !

Great story ya shared GaryB! No doubt you remember when before laws and rules, we'd stretch across a small stream a line and dangle some hooks off it into the waters and come back for dinner. Ye old tout line... I used to make a living fishing but got hungry and quit! <wink>

Wasn't it fun! So many years gone by and now so many rules, regulations, laws, requirements, codes, statutes and policies you have to wonder every time you step into the water if you're becoming an outlaw in someone's book. At the same time, there's so much interest in it, so many people doing it, that there has to be some kind of management. It just ain't like it used to be. Still fun though.

Graphite! Reminds that the best golfers in the world won’t play with anything but graphite shafts. I know golf shafts are not fishing rods but the material is proven.

Lews stands behind their products, I own 3 Lews speed sticks I love them. I fish for Reds, Snook, trout (spotted) caught some fish 15lbs or better with no problems. I love the drag system on these models

te=FS Digest]Yes they break easy compared to glass or composite but some last forever. We sold 100s of the lews combos at sport shows at my last job and had really good luck with them compared to most 13Fishing rods or a handful of okuma models.

Most of its random, some of it is how the retailer handled it. Sometimes you did something catastrophic without noticing and it broke a few trips later. They aren't the best in sub zero temps either.

I'm personally a huge fan of the Lews products. My only complaint is that their spinning reels run on the small size but that's typical from bass companies.

Been using Phenix Boron 5.5 spinning rod for 15 years without any problem. Caught a Batray with about a 3' wing span with 8lb mono on a Shimano reel. Also have a Shimano 6' Sensilite graphite spinning rod with Shimano reel and 8lb mono and caught a 26" halibut rod was bent on half and pulling line and couldn't get into my 23" net, was fishing alone that day and it felt the net and snapped my line, quick release. Fishing San Diego South Bay don't keep anything there!!! Slimmy bottom dwellers. Also have 2 ugly sticks had one break the tip, sent a picture of it to Shakesphere and they sent me a new rod, and had a new eye put on for a few dollars and works fine. L
