OK. Had some very good friends who were RM's. Where do you fish down there? I used to fish off the rocks and broken seawall at the south end of the sub base over at Point Loma. Used to be a kelp bed about 20 or 30 yards out and all kinds of critters hung out there. There and walked the beach north up from Imperial Beach. Fresh water fishing sucked.

Hey Larry M I'm in Alpine SD county, been waiting for some leak seal on my boat to dry completley so I can get back on the South Bay to fish, and this rain thing came up. I've been fishing the bay for the last 7 years usually once a week and never got rained out. The worst thing is the wind which was bad on Tuesday when I was going to go out and now the rain!! In San Diego??? Looks like Sat or Sun is the target now. Been sitting here watching the rain off and on all day and checking the weather at Silver Strand beach Coronado, closest to where I fish. No wind or rain after Thursday. Larry W. Alpine.

Check out SDFISH. Com
Lots of fishing, boating, and hunting information there. Lots of other subjects there also.
And you get real snow up there.
I use the same handle there.

Hey Spirit born and raised here class of "44" quit fishing freshwater here 5 years or so ago really sucks in SD. Pay to launch pay to fish and have to work really hard to catch bass my main fish go to. I fish just a little south of the bridge on the east side all the way to the channel to the south. I launch east up the channel at Pepper park, free to launch and not as crowded as Shelter Island launch. Catch mostly Spotted Bay Bass, but also catch Halibut, bonefish, Shortfin Corvina, Croaker, Sandbass, Corbina, Mackeral, and a few others. All catch and release. My one friend will keep legal Halibut22" or bigger. I won't eat anything out of the not so clean water. Most days 20 to 50, just a lot of fun better than staying an doing yard work, I've got 2.6 acres down in a canyon 1000' from the road, 4 total on easement road. Larry W. Of Alpine Ca.

Hi, see @Fishandrods report about what's out in SD Bay. Lots of saltwater bass along the rocks by Shelter Island. When we would take out the boat we would drift fish in the bay. Point Loma or La Jolla kelp beds. In front of the Hotel Del for halibut. Surf fishing up and down the coast.
I don't fish the Coronado Islands any more. Paper work to fish the Mexican islands is too much work now, used to be real simple.
I don't fish freshwater much even though there are three lakes close by me. Only fish for trout at one of them.

Used to have a very dear friend who had a small ranch over by Ramona. 4ths of July were something else! A shipmate and I drove out to Lake Jennings one morning to do some bass fishing. Got there about 4:30 in the morning trying get an early start. There was a line of cars at least a mile long waiting either for the gate to open or for someone to take their money. Probably both. We did not stick around. I used to occasionally go up around Poway to do some trout fishing in one of the lakes up there and there was also a lake up by Julian that had stocked trout in it, but you had to wait in line there to fish it. If I went down to the sub base I could pretty much have the place to myself and the water there is pretty clean for San Diego, that's right on the breakers where bay enters the ocean. Caught mostly calico bass and rays, but we would catch the occasional halibut. Great eating!

Glorietta Bay in Coronado and South Shore on Mission Bay are free. Oceanside charges.
We're lucky to have two bays to fish from.
I agree on not eating fish on the south side of the bay. Mouth of the bay is ok, lots of tidal flow there, seasonal fish are ok, like bonito and barracuda.

If you want to try freshwater again try Lake Dixon. They stock the trout and sometimes they pull out some really nice ones. There's bass and catfish in there also.
If you're old like me you can enter the lake for free. No fishing license but you will have to pay $5 to fish. No boat launching but they do have row and powered boats for rent.
Not a bad little lake, just a few miles from our house. Wife and I used to go there for trout in the winter.
That's our grandson and his friend at the end of the pier.

Hi, in the early 60s I fished San Louis Rey and Santa Margerita Rivers in San Diego area for trout they were stocked by Fish and wildlife then, no more as far as I know. They used to show where they were stocking in the news paper. Fished Lake Cuyamaca in mountains for trout and even that was no good the last time I took my boat there. Dixon and Poway are the only lakes if never fished in San Diego County. Late 50s early 60s fished in the eastern sierras. The last trout fishing I did was the Kern river in Kernville, we went to hotrod shows ther until 2015. Show was right next to the kern, always caught and released a lot of trout, stayed in motel 100 ft from river and our hotrods were right there too. Another cost to fish any lake on California with your boat is for the Qugua muscle problem another sticker on the boat. Best day on the bay for 2 was 176 fish. My one fishing partner moved to Yuma Az. Less than a year ago, but comes back to SD to pet watch for friends and brings his boat or fishes with me in my boat. 2 times out within the last month we caught 98 and 90. Fishandrods.

Lake Cuyamaca is nice, we would fish there when our kids were little and we were camping at the State Parks.
I don't have to pay that extra fee because I checked for saltwater use only.
When the saltwater bass are biting there's no stopping them. The size limit increased to 14 inches now.

The other day I posted that it was 94 degrees outside. Now it's raining here. 1 1/2 inches so far on my gauge with flash flood warnings. To top that it just started to hail. Crazy.
I think that some of you may have sent your weather my way.

Larry, the other day I went outside. It was so cold my shadow froze to the ground and I was stuck there. I had to wait for the shadow of a passing cloud before I could escape.

That's funny.
