The MN. DNR spends a ton of money trying to keep those puppies alive. It's too bad the general public does help them out more than they do but they are getting better. Also, many of our snakes have GPS chips in them and they are monitored all year long. Their action has helped considerably and the rattle snake population has increased.

This is not good news fly, for me anyway.

Florida, and west Virginia made a deal years ago to trade Florida Diamond backs for some West Virginia Turkeys. Can you guess who got the best of that trade, Although I'd rather eat Rattler than Turkey

If you want a snake skin on your saddle or any thing leather that won't be flexing skin a fresh snake and put it flesh side to leather and trim to fit leave to dry. My wife and I had hides that stayed on our saddles for over 20 years, no glue required. All this snake talk makes me hungry.

Sorry pb! I have turned many of them for their $2.00 ea. for their bounty in my younger years. Many more than I have relocated in my later years.

The nastiest meanest snake in the U.S. is the cottonmouth water moccasin. I’ve caught those sorry snakes trying to get in my kayak and whacked it with my paddle. I’ve actually killed them in a John boat I was fishing in. It got in when I got too close to the bank. I was squirrel hunting with a buddy of mine years ago. We got in the woods before sunup. At sunup he started to stand up off a log he was sitting on and got bit by a cottonmouth. All total it was probably an hour and a half by the time I got him to a hospital. They saved his life but not able to save his foot. They are a nasty snake to bite you.

Ditto on Water Moccasin being the most agressive .... lived in Florida for 19 years. I'm back up north now, and only see a few copperheads. I;m with everyone else that says the only good snake is a dead snake.
And what ...... what in the world would provoke anyone to eating any snake? Are you starving to death somewhere? Just the thought of that is disgusting. No I have not ever tried one .... obviously. I love watching those big rattlesnake roundups, where thousands are killed for bounty. Thank you.

True poisonous snakes are hard to find now a days! Many banded water snakes get shot cause they look like a moccasin. We have black racers and they target rattlers for dinner. Also helped a few indigo snakes repopulate locally. All part of the wildlife! Seen red mangrove snakes twice, Very rare and protected. Let-em live too!

Fly, I remember a month or so ago we all hit on the snake topic and many like you out there catching and selling snakes in your day. My hat goes off to you all, just not getting that close on purpose to any snake.

I grew up having no fear of snakes, it's just the way that I was raised. My oldest son was a witness to his mother beating a rattle snake to death with a hoe when he was about 2 - 3 years old and to this day he is deathly afraid of all snakes, like his mother. I wasn't around at the time it happened but I turned the rattlers in for the bounty latter. I love them and I love you, pb, it's just the way people are put together.
