I live at a MHP on the East Fork of the Carson River. Flow is down slightly but still strong flow. Snow melt still providing a strong flow for next 2 to 3 weeks.

Will, we went and found it very interesting. Huge natural lake in the middle of the desert. We took a pontoon boat and the launching facilities left a little to be desired but we got in and out OK.
THE LAKE IS LOW EVEN THOUGH THE AREA GOT A LOT OF SNOW AND RAIN THIS YEAR.
Now for the fishing. We decided to go for the large Lahontan trout that this lake is famous for. We used Down riggers and the idea was to go all the way down to the bottom and then bring weight up about 5 to 7 feet. We tried a variety of lures, Dirty Dancers, spoons, and flatfish.
We had one hook up that got away do to fisher error. Fishing with barbless hooks meant tight lines are essential. About half way back to the boat fisherman stopped reeling for a split second and fish was lost. After two additional strikes, not on hook, we caought an 19 inch Lahonton Trout, because of Lake rules, all fish between 17 and 20 inches must be returned to the water. We had a great day on the water and feel we learned a lot. We are already thinking about a return trip next year. Pyramid Lake is closed from June 30th to October 1st for the fishery to replenish the fishery annually. Pyramid Lake is a Paiute reservation. No State licenses are required, only Permits issued br the tribe are legal.
