You can also file the barbs off as I do.

I hope to get some good hints/info from other users like best lure to use at certain times and best way to retrieve - I like to fish top-water lures that POP or WIGGLE, but... My biggest large-mouth Bass to date was 8.5 lbs (weighed) caught on a hula-popper in lake at Innsbrook at Wright City, MO (exit from I-70) in the spring a few years ago. I released back into lake as I ALWAYS catch-and-release. I also file or squeeze down the barbs on my hooks; sometimes I lose a catch, but I just like to fight 'em, not harm 'em, actually landing it is a bonus.
I was led to this site by an item in a news story about Pomme-de-Terre Lake and Muskies. I have a question about that - there was no mention of it in the article, but I have read in the past that when fishing for Muskies, you should use a wire leader. Is that true and if so, can someone fill me in on how long a leader and how to attach it to line. GOOD LUCK!
