The heck with the Salmon go after the Stripers that are in there now. Go up behind Calexpo and fish there with sardines or crawdads. Full moon fish at night with a pencil popper in the flat water ( slack ) areas. I would chase them all the way up to Nimbus fish hatchery. That spot is awesome early in the morning where the water pours out from the fish hatchery. You have to walk down to that spot really slowly and up stream from it , cast a SHAD RAP lure near where the water comes out and work it like a wounded fish with short jerks . If they are there you will know pretty quick. I used to call that spot my 3 cast hole, big 39+ pound fish will kill that lure.
Good luck.
You have to bleed them right away , and cut away the blood lines in the meat they taste great. Meat almost looks like Yellowfin tuna.
I commercial fished for over 20 years and we would catch tons of them it has a commercial market all over the world. Around here people do say they don't eat well, but until you try them for your self.
Yes sir that could happen but it takes time to figure out where to fish in POC- Port O'Connor.
And it's very shallow fishing which cuts out most boats.
Thanks everyone, it was a fun day can't wait to go to it again.
Trying to figure out how to post the picture.
Limit's of Red fish, some Black Drum, but the fun was the Jack Creval on medium light rods 30 pound braid. Line screamers you have to chase them down or you have no line left on your reel. My buddy found out about this on our last trip. He caught his biggest fish ever about 35-40 lb Jack. 40 minute fight, but one he will never forget.
