BankFisherman, lots and lots of bottom snags around Trenton and the boats r jigging just off bottom so I’m not sure how well u will be able to cast and retrieve without constantly losing lures / jigs. I have‘t seen many people fishing from shore along there but definitely worth a try. Lots of fish in there at the right time.

If u can determine the correct depth, maybe fishing a slip bobber would work???

This is my second year of surf fishing so there are a lot of others with a LOT more knowledge and experience. Down here from Michigan and staying at Vilano Beach, FL with a friend from the east coast who surf fishes there. He brought his 10’ & 12’ heavy surf casting rods. We are using pompano rigs baited with 1/2”-1” peeled live shrimp tails and 1/2”-3/4” pieces of FishBite artificials. Depending on the violence of the surf we hang a 2 to 4oz pyramid sinker on the end and cast out as far as we can then sit and watch. I brought my much smaller Michigan walleye rods (7’ medium action) with me and have used them the same way but limited to a 2oz pyramid sinker. The big rods have 30lb mono and my walleye rods have 10lb Fireline. The big rods have caught more fish because we can cast them 3x farther than the walleye rods but those big rods can’t compete with the small ones for fun in the fight. I’ve had a great time reeling in whitings and a blues on a bent double walleye rod. We’ve caught whitings, blues, reds, skates and even a couple of bonnethead sharks (glad those didn’t hit the walleye rods)🤯 There are definitely nuances to reading the surf but nothing beats experience. Remember even a blind squirrel finds an acorn once in a while.
