What weight and length is your rod also is it fiberglass or newer material faster action rods don’t load as well as slower rods on the roll cast

Yea weight forward is not the best for roll casting you want more weight in the back pushing lighter line forward hence the tapered line , tapered line also allies for more delicate presentations , everyone is pushing weight forwards because there easier for newbies to learn casting with and you can throw them a country mile, I can cast all my weight forward line off my heavier rods 8-9 weight and dam near most of it off my 6 weight but in all seriousness must fish are caught within 50 ft most if you really want to roll cast and can afford it but a tapered line they have them at different tapers for different species of fish keep practicing good luck

Trying to learn how to cast, working on a roll cast more than an ordinary over head cast, doing ok with the fly line but the 9ft leader + tippet doesn’t straighten out like I think it should, practicing on the grass and I don’t think grass is good to practice on, I’d rather practice on the water
Also trying to learn how to tie,
Here is how I’m doing,
Remember I didn’t try to make them look like anything and I wasn’t trying to copy anything, just trying to tie something that maybe hopefully a fish might bite

What line are you using you can’t roll cast weight forwards very well or sinking lines you need a tapered line and shrink your leader to 5-7 ft till you get the hang of it and start short don’t try to bomb 50 ft out till you can master shorter distances

Good morning all, I’ll be at Pena Blanca fishing for bass this Tuesday with my fly rod. I’ll be in my waders along the bank. Any tips or fly recommendations would be appreciated. My first time fishing for bass. Thanks.

I would start with what weight Rod are you using and floating line or sinking either way I would be stripping big articulated streamers such as any of the Kelly Galloupe streamer line of products, keep that streamer moving with lots of action, mix it up till you see what they’re interested in, also try to incorporate up and down action as your stripping try to use colors associated with the local bait forage , start off with smaller presentations as most bait fish are on the smaller side this early in the year , Good luck and send some pics use anything along this line ,if you’re rid is heavy enough I’ve been known to chuck rubber worms with my fly rod but remember to strip set the hook or you’ll have a lot fall off
