I’m from Bradenton and there ain’t nothing there but gar and lady fish. However, if you fish freshwater , go way up the river we’re it turns fresh, your gonna catch lots of variety on artificial worms and live shrimp. Good luck.
So, you hooked a pelican, cut the line and let it fly off with all that line attached. He's probably hanging upside down in the mangroves dead now. There is a huge threat of closing the skyway piers because of that behavior
Yes, I was 16 ft. above the water line & could not get the Pelican up as he was caught up on something (couldn’t see what). No ill intent, but won’t fish there again after that. Skyway too expensive anyway, but I understand your position
Before I go I check the tides and now I look at the FWC Red tide charts. That will get me started on where to go and what I can fish for. Then I can know when to be on the spot and what bait to use. I've joined a very insightful and helpful group called Salt strong. You can find Many of their videos on YouTube. But the species specific and your area specific information available to members has helped me every trip. I'm a new Floridian 16 months and it has given me information and skills that would have taken me years to aquire.

Welcome Eddie. Florida has some great fishing. I mostly do fresh water when vacationing on the West Coast near Venice. Lot of small ponds which great for bass and pans, also on East side. Since you are on the East side, may want to check out the St.Johns River system. River runs north (yes north) from Everglades to Jacksonville. In between are a number of lakes that it feeds into and then out to another lake. Super great water for LM bass. Need a boat or rent one though. Not aware of where could fish from shore. Good luck.

Thanks ANYBASS, but I’m in Bradenton on the gulf side. I haven’t fished fresh water here though. Good idea!
Never fished the west coast. Heard there's some good fishing in the gulf. Post some of your catch if you can. And how is that red tide over your way?
I haven’t heard much about red tide this year, and hope it’s kept @ bey. I have a couple of friends w/boats, but fish mostly from shore. No shortage of small shark & skates here.
