Going to spend 5 days there with friends. What kind of fishing can I expect out of the small lakes there?
I know a hole on a river like that. It is full of smallmouth and largemouth bass plus assorted other species. It’s hard to get to though. Several times I would make first cast with a long double prop bait and would get a 2#+ smallmouth on and they would be taking it away from each other. I might have 5 different fish on before I got a double reeled in. There are cabins within a couple hundred yards now so idk if it’s still good or not. Think I’ll rent the cabin and find out!
Hello Amanda88, I live in Henryetta but my job has taken me all over Eastern Ok. How far are you comfortable traveling? The Tulsa city water dept has holding ponds 2 or 3 miles straight south of Catoosa on the West side of the road. There are a lot of strip pits in and around BA but I don’t know any in particular. I would go to BPS and hang around the fishing counter and talk to the workers there and make your needs known. Also strike up conversations with customers. Most fisherman are friendly and while they might give up their secret holes I bet most would give you some ideas especially since you’re disabled. There is a small lake North of Sapulpa that allow public fishing. It’s called Lake Sahoma or Pretty Water lake.
There is a family fishing trout camp just east of Webber Falls, ok heading toward Tenkiller dam. (It’s called Marvel) There is a sign at the turn off. It is on the lower Illinois river, has year round trout stockings. You don’t need a special trout stamp anymore. Another good one is the Blue River down by Tishomingo but it’s only stocked in winter. They have a yearly Derby there also. Idk about Arkansas but I intend to check it out for trout and smallmouth bass.
