Steve one last thing if you haven’t already done this when you keep blues. 🩸 bleed them as soon as you can.
This keeps the flesh from getting gamey. Just cut him deep under the gills. Tight MINDS!!!!
Always, then right on ice. Dinner was delicious!

I just saw the final results. A guy from Long island won with a 20.18 pounder, weighed in at 4:33 pm, today. He knocked out the guy from Niantic with a 15.18 pounder.
I know, crazy! And it seems there actually isn’t a kayak category so I don’t feel bad.

Nice catching Steve. Are you IN the WICC Tournament? Yesterday the top 3 on the leaderboard were all Connecticut fish, and all #15 and change, fish. Thanks for the pictures.
Good question, Fred, unfortunately no. I am wishing I did though, I believe there is a category for kayak fishing and I may have been in the running. Biggest fish was 32” plus a bit, my darn scale wouldn’t power up so I don’t know the weight but it was fat as could be. A definite contender!
Had an epic evening on the lower CT River catching 15 or so bluefish up to 32”. These fish have to be up there as pound for pound hardest fighting. They never quit and seem to want to rip you apart, limb by limb! Took one home for grilling two ways tomorrow night.

Nice! I may hit Old Saybrook Sunday at Dawn if weather isn’t too bad…. Stripers and blues are hot.
Didn’t go out this morning, not sure about wind combined w full moon tides.

Beware: Keeper slot goes to 28-31”, actually 30.99”, as of 5/26/23. Need to invest in the future!

Nice catching Steve. It's probably the best bite of the year now, with the least amount of pressure, so enjoy. Before you know it all the loonies will be on the water. Be safe out there.
Oh I wasn’t the only one out there, believe me!

Nice stripers, KS! Bet they took you for a ride! So what happened when the bail came off? Did you hand retrieve? Tight lines👍🎣🐟
Luckily it broke at the very end of a retrieve without a fish on so no big deal. If it was with a bigger fish I would have had a heat attack!
Had a blast a few days ago in lower CT River catching a dozen stripers, mostly 26-31”, a couple smaller. Light tackle, can’t beat it! The only downside is the bail came flying off a cheap-o reel. I guess it’s time to invest in a decent reel to replace it.
This guy made my wrist sore!
Note the battle damage near the tail.
Fished Pickerel Lake 730-1030 this morning, caught 6 pickerel (largest pictured), 3 bass, 1 crappie. Biggest bass was a beast, every bit of 5lbs, threw hook right alongside my yak as I was admiring it laying on top of the water. Ha ha, I won’t get caught doing that again! Wind turned to come out of the north and the morning was over. A decent spring outing.
Welcome, CTB. I am going to hit Pickerel Lake in my Old Town AP120 tomorrow morning for a few hours. I’ll let you all know how it goes. (A backyard pond in Glastonbury has been producing pretty well the last couple of weeks). Also, I just requested to join your FB group, I’m up for group outings or partnering up.
Hanging out out in shallow water where it is a bit warmer, particularly on sunny days.
Thanks NoCal, I was wondering about that.
