Are there a couple crappies in the group picture of fish? The markings look like crappies…
Went again today. 3 of us in the boat. 9 crappies and 5 bluegills. Really slow. Lots of boat traffic. Talked to a few anglers at the boat launch. No one did well. Don’t think they are on the beds yet. Didn’t see any evidence.
Fished Lac Vieux Desert on Monday. Spotty crappie fishing, but the spawn will happen soon. Lots of boat traffic, and not all congregated. I presume different species are being targeted. First time I have ever fished there in a boat. I’ve only ice fished there, so my knowledge is limited.
I’m 68. I’ve lived in the UP almost all my life except for a 10 year stint in ND to finish my work career. I fish all over the UP. I was just asking if anyone has any reports about fishing. I fish every chance I get, and yes, there are a lot of places to go. Been to a lot of them. Tight lines.
I guess it depends on what kind of fish you plan on targeting. June is a little late for the walleye bite, but you can still find some. It’ll be a late spawn I think. The lake is still ice covered. Depending on water temps, in June you can find bluegills and sunfish in the weeds on the North end of the lake. There’s.healthy population of both and they are a nice average size. I’d say the sunfish are above average. There are also crappies, but harder to find. Smallmouth and largemouth may be with the panfish if you find them. Big northern pike and big perch too. Sometimes in June, you can find both in the weeds on the North end of the lake. There are numerous weedbeds on the lake, mostly on the Northern third of the lake. Slip bobbers with crawlers or leeches will work for walleye and perch depending on water and ambient temps. Ice jugs with red worms for the bluegills and sunfish. Your success will be weather related for sure. Good luck. Tight lines!
Is there anyone on here that has anything related to UP fishing? I’m from the far West end and would like to see reports from Marquette to the West. Tight lines!!!
I feel your pain. When it’s windy there, that body of water is wild. Cool looking water though. Hope to return one day. Good luck!
Fished there several years ago. Weather was cold and it was extremely windy. Caught lots of drum. Had one warm day, and caught some bluegills. I don’t think we got one crappie in 3 days. 3 boats and 6 guys…
How about the Alberta Pond? Any info on that too?
Does anyone know if the lake is ice free yet? I’d like to take my kayak there on the opener, but it’s 60+ miles from me and I’d rather not just take a ride! Thanks for any info someone may have.
