Thanks for the photos. I studied your bottom rigs as I am seeking a more effective way to fish live bait in deep water. In Carters lake, GA there are big schools of fish 50 feet deep and deeper. Any suggestions from anyone are appreciated. The water is very clear and I've been out a few times in late afternoon. Might be better around mid-day, considering light penetration at such extreme depths..
I see that you have a floater on your dropper line, to get the bait up off of the bottom, and act as an attractor. The three-hook setup with beads looks pretty elaborate.

Yes, it's pretty elaborate, one hook with the attractor will normally do just fine.

If you're just looking for an attractor only, this may be an option. It's 100% adjustable without tying any knots. You can position it as high or as low as you want.

If you want to adjust the position of your bait as well, here is an adjustable bait arm without the attraction features.

Temps were suppose to be in the mid 70's today so I decided to go fishing. Turned out to be a great day! I put my boat in near Cobb Island, just trying to see what's biting near the end of the season. I used bloodworm and Spot strips for bait and for tackle I used my own 123FishingRigs. Initially I had a hard time finding fish until I saw an "Oystermen" harvesting oysters in about eight feet of water. Started drift fishing down current from him and began catching fish right away. Stayed there for a few hours and caught about 50 Perch but also a few Spot and some undersized throwback Croaker. All of the fish caught were cleaned and donated. Hopefully I'll get a few more days to fish before the season ends. I plan to go to Morgantown Bar and Point Lookout next. At Point Lookout I'll be looking for the flocks of Sea Gulls that travel above the schools of Rockfish feeding on bait fish.

You are 100% correct. I only caught three and wasn't in the mood to clean them. If I caught a lot of them I would've kept them.

Bottom fished Solomon's Island in Maryland. Used bloodworm and fishbites for bait and 123FishingRigs for tackle. Caught Spot, Croaker, Puffer Fish, Sea Bass, Mullet and a big ugly Toad Fish. Only kept the Spot for a fish dinner.

Where can I buy blaes for flounder rigs so I can build my own

Hi John, I have some on clearance depending on the size and style you are looking for. The only catch is that they are steel, which means you'll have to rinse them after using them in saltwater to prevent rusting. Here's the link: https://123fishingrigs.com/Ten-Cent-Fishing-Sale.html

Wow, it's been 5 months since I preserved a batch of bloodworm by soaking it in EverClear grain alcohol and storing it in the refrigerator. Amazingly, as of Oct 27th it's still catching fish. I will never throw away old bloodworm again.

Excellent catch! What is that float called in pic #2? Is that a corky?

No it's not a corky, just an adjustable styrofoam float that allows you change the height of the bait presentation.

You are correct UncleRob. The bridge has been completed and is now open for traffic. The old bridge was just one lane each way and the new one is two lanes each way. There's also good fishing for Rockfish and Catfish in that area. The old bridge is scheduled for demolition within 2 years. Hopefully that will bring more structure for an even better fishing habitat.

Well done 123FR. Where is this new bridge on 301 located? I used to travel up and down 95 & 301 on my way to NC.

Hey Plumbob, the new bridge was built right next to the old bridge that connected Maryland and Virginia. If you traveled on route 301 to go to NC you probably went across the old bridge. I believe the new name is the Nice/Middleton Bridge.

Caught these beauties bottom fishing with a custom rig near the 301 bridge in Maryland. For bait I was using 3 month old bloodworm preserved in EverClear Grain Alcohol.

Fresh bloodworm is the go to bait for fishing in the Maryland portion of the Chesapeake Bay and it's tributaries. Unfortunately they don't last much past 7 days in the fridge without the worms dying and turning to mush, even if you turn them often. I tried something new (for me) where I preserved my leftover bloodworms in a small container with just a little bit of EverClear Grain Alcohol and stored them in the fridge. After about 3 weeks the worms are still pink and pretty. Most importantly they still caught fish just a well as my fresh bloodworms. They caught so well that I may opt to preserve the bloodworm as soon as I purchase them. In my opinion this is a game changer. I can't tell you how many times I've bought a few dozen bloodworms to fish with all day and only used a few of them because the bite was slow. Ultimately they spoil before I can get back on the water the next week. They only downside to this method is that you will smell like you've been drinking heavily when you haven't. :) If you've tried this approach please post your results. I'll be sure to keep you posted on just how long my bloodworm will last before the fish don't want them anymore.

Here is a quick video of exactly what I did.

They are actually the same, the video may not have captured the detail. I'll see if I can take a picture of the worms used in the video because I still have them. In reference to where they are harvested, I really don't know. I remember seeing an Episode of "Dirties Jobs" and they showed some being harvested in Maine if my memory serves me correctly.

As promised, here is a picture of one of the actual worms shown in the video.

Couldn't find the episode of "Dirties Jobs" but here is another video showing them being harvested in Maine. The second video is National Geographic excerpt.
