I just received a Penn SPINFISHER SSV9500 and it appears to be a pretty unique, and awesome reel. I’m going to be using it inshore for alligator gar fishing and I’m not sure what type of rod I need to purchase for it. I had it braided with Pro Cat 80lb. and I’m just excited to have it. If any of you out there can provide me with what I should use with this setup please let me know. Your help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks everyone! Oh yeah, he put up a fight, however I let him wear himself out and brought him in... He took a few jumps just after setting the hook, and it wasn’t easy getting him in. I am just so excited RJS...

It’s a real popular fish here down south, and I myself just want to learn how to fish for alligator gar. Everyone says it’s not easy, so I say that’s what interest me... I also have the type of equipment it takes to concur such a fish like an alligator gar.

RSJ, will do! I’ve been talking to a few people in my neighborhood that own boats and they have said the exact same as you have said. I live here in Port Arthur and I’m told it’s plenty of alligator gar to catch around here. I’ll be out there, and I’ll post pics of anything I happen to catch....

I tried fishing years ago with my son and just didn’t have the time for it. Now that I’m older, I’m really trying to get back into it. Lately I have been in the Sabine Pass Area trying to catch alligator gar fish, and I just haven’t been having any luck out there. If anyone has any information on where I can possibly setup from experience please be sure to let me know. I’m am also willing to travel outside of my area to find a spot for me and my family to fish...
