Welcome to Texas LM! I spent some time in upstate so know exactly where your from. I was in Newark in 83 & 84. Spend most of my time in the Central coastal area now and enjoying it more than I ever imagined. Folks down here are of the same mold as the good people in upstate New York.

Salt water kayak fishing in east bay Galveston
Welcome to the forum rwj. There’s allot of saltwater kayak fishermen on here.
I feel your pain on hunting areas. I raised GSP’s and Labs for many years to hunt quail & dove but quit when the oil boom hit and everywhere that used to allow hunting disappeared. Not complaining but that’s the way it went. About the only thing we can do now is bring your own dogs to a can hunt with pen birds. It’s still fun but not the same as having a covey of wild birds explode between your legs 😂
There were a lot of black drum schooling under the private pier we were on tho but they just weren’t biting.
We fished all weekend with cut bait and dead shrimp and never even got a nibble so no help here. The water was so clear and shallow by the shore that I think it was just tough conditions, could see the bottom at 4’ and bad moon too. That’s about all of the excuses I have for now!

Here’s the site for gulf coasters in Texas.
I’ve got a bad back as well but with my pier in the back yard I can get out for awhile and stretch. Requested a Chinook fishing PFD for Christmas so as soon as that comes in I’ll be set to get started. Can’t wait!
I’ve got your number saved so we’ll keep in contact. It’s been awfully foggy the last couple of weeks with the watt weather.
That’s some boat you got there Old Fisherman, I went with the smaller Tamarack Pro 103 paddler to get started. Not planning on mounting any fishfinders or gps to it because I have that on my johnboat and can just scout with it so no help there. Trying to learn the area first so not too worried about catching allot at this point with oyster season still in full swing! Dang they’re good this year…..
That sounds like a great move for you sir. If you get a chance come down to visit us in the Texas coastal region. Great people and great fishing. Love the Port O’Connor, Seadrift, Indianola areas myself. Lots of old cowboys in this area.
That’s quite the switch JPS, from cattle to yaks…. Sounds like you got a heck of a deal on that purchase.
That’s a really great fishing area around Mansfield Doc. I’ve only fished there a few times but it was really a great location to cast a line!
Dirty Dog
Thanks for confirming Dirt, I already have a little old beat up John boat with a good Merc motor and troller so if I want to go to the islands I’ll just take it. I think I just want to start out paddling around the shallows in a comfy 10 footer that I can throw in my truck bed with a hitch extender. Awesome info brother. Thanks
I was wondering about the paddle kayaks so thanks for the info on them. The ones I’ve looked at were a pretty penny on price so kind of quit looking but if they’re worth it I may reconsider. Definitely not interested in a motor tho, don’t you have to get tpwd tags for them and register every couple of years?
Sounds great Robert. My names David and you can reach me at ddahse15@gmail.com to get off of the main social site. Maybe we can meet up at Greene Hall one of these afternoons to talk fishing.
Sounds great Old Fisherman. I live in New Braunfels but have a house on the bay in Port Lavaca with a ton of launch sites within a few miles of the house. I’m retired as well so as soon as it warms up a little it’ll be time to get out. Let’s stay in touch for sure. God Bless!!!
