When I was a kid, my grandfather would store his pistols in what he called an “ oil cloth”. It was a stiff cloth, almost like paper. After unwrapping, there was a film of oil on my hands that left his pistols in pristine condition. Decades have gone by and I was wondering if anyone has any idea what that was? I cannot replicate with today’s products. I’m hoping someone can help me out,

Cosmoline is what the military uses and very likely what your grandfather used.

Sand trap should stock this week. Not sure of the day but before the weekend. Mice tales and night crawlers should do the trick.

I know what you mean. I also seen rules change, and a big decline in fish. It may never be the same

I sugest you check with the trout fitter in Mammoth Lakes and find out which bodies of water are being planted. They have had several years in a row dealing with problems at fish hatcheries that plant in the eastern sierras.

Good tip. Thanks

Yes the environmentalists are going to save this planet to dead.

You got it right Ranger. I could say much much more about that.

Never heard of that. I would think that would be hard to do, fishing brings a lot of money to the East Side

It's going to be a fight. The environmentalists are trying to keep the area 100% natural. One claim was that they wanted to save kind of frog.
Pice by pice they have gained some ground.
I read this the D F and G website three years ago.

No trout plants in June Lake this season. This was told to me by a friend that lives in Bishop and is a fishing guide. Pretty lake but fish that are caught are from last season.

This is sad. Sure would like to know what's really going on. Three years ago there was talk about closing all of the eastern Sierra for fishing. I don't know where that stands at this time.

As you know you have lots of lakes to choose from.

Yes, many water ways and lakes. Been going to the eastern Sierra for 50 years and still finding new places. Fishing has not been the same for years and getting worse. I just hope I can find a good spot for the grandkids. If so I will post pictures.

That's a shame. I'll be there this Saturday but I'll stay away from June and focus on the Creeks.

In June Lake for a few days, looking to do some fishing (fly & spinning) in Rock Creek (both creek & lake), wondering about recommendations. Any pointers?

I'm looking for tips myself. I'll be there in 10 days. The little information I got as of a week ago was June lake was very slow. Rock creek was good on Flys. I'm also going to sabrina lake in bishop. I got the report three days ago and it's very good. Good luck to you.

[quote=mindyanna]HI Bill,

There has to be a closer place, 100 miles is a bit too far to go fishing, was hoping for something closer. The price of gas and my car I would have to spend 100 dollars to get there and back! A dollar for every mile!
Do you know of closer places to go? Maybe in the Tehachapi, Lancaster, or Palmdale area?

Thank you
I know what you mean , I'm getting to the point I don't want to go anywhere due to the gas prices.
I live closer to LA so lone pine is 200 miles.
I will check out closer places near you and get back to you. I almost sure there are areas to fish around your location.

Welcome Barbara,
If you like to trout fish I can be of some help. If you're in rosamond you could drive north on the 14 to 395 and go between lone pine and bishop.
This would be about 100 mile Dr. Let me know if this is what like to do and then we ca talk more.
