New to this area. Wondering what type of fish and needed bait.

Been here since 92..Shrimp on a mono fireball rig works great..no crabs eels or skates using these.Small specks..flounder..spot..croaker and white perch mostly. Small white rooster tails with silver blades..1/8 oz are a blast on ultra lights w/ 6# test for white perch..I prefer an outgoing tide..just make sure it's moving and not slack tide either way..Throw spoons for blues and Spanish at a quick retrieve..plastics on lead heads work good for everything..twister tails in white or chartreuse...Good luck and tight lines.Welcome to the hood!!!

Happened to us on the lower Potomac river in VA on a hot summer day!! Looked up and it was black to the east just like that!! If Christopher Columbus thought the world was flat and you could fall off the edge then I saw what he saw on the horizon!!

Look for a stick coming straight out of the water..usually old Christmas trees dumped in various locations around the lake to provide cover and structure for the fish!! Any kind of woody structure will hold crappie as well.. Check the water temp...may still be a little cold still with this wacky ass weather we've been having!! Good luck and tight lines!! P.S.. Check out Green Tops fishing report...very good report!!

Welcome..I grew up in Woodstock just down the road from you..Many places to fish for small mouth in any one of the 3 branches of the Shenandoah river.. A lot of state stocked streams for trout..Deep water near Luray for musky but that option is limited at best..Smallies easily caught on jig heads with sassy shade or twister tail...small mepps spinners..small jerk baits like rapalas..I quit using live bait due to gut hooking too many fish..Trout are hatchery trout that will just about eat anything..Contact vgif for trout stocking schedules..Contact Murray.s fly shop for latest conditions and catches!!! Good luck and tight lines!!!

Thanks..Just wondering why this lure won't catch!! I fish many different lures and bait setups and always catch fish..this particular lure is the most realistic shrimp bait on the market and have caught nothing on it!!!

You tube was a great help to me after years of casting across the ocean over outfitted!! 50' in front of you in the surf is where 80% of the fish are!!! Haven't got skunked throwing artificiales for 10 years!!

American eel. !!. I live in he tidewater of Virginia on the lower Potomac river..We have a local commercial fisherman that fishes 600 eel pots daily during the season..gets approx $1 a pound at wholesaler or buy boat!! They are exported to Japan and other countries to make wallets and belts and such..the meat goes to market!! He makes a good income from these critters!!

I have around 22 year old line and tried to cast and couldn't cast more than 8 feet. Could the line have lost its properties?

It will get all full of cracks if not conditioned or cleaned over the years... Strip it off the reel and clean it with a mild soap solution and dry it then rub it with a rag saturated with armor all then use a dry rag to wipe it again!! If it's cracked up toss it and buy new!! Make sure the weight of the line matches the rod!! The weight should be painted on the rod near the butt!! Hope this helps...Tight lines from Virginia!!

I moved to a new town years ago that has river running through it with awesome fishing opportunities but knew no one and I didn't have a boat!So I ran an ad in the local news paper!! Was astounded at the amount of calls I got from people with boats that have no one to fish with!! We would meet at the ramp and go!! I never showed up without at least 50 dollars for bait and gas plus I always brought a cooler full of sandwiches and drinks! We might only burn 5 gallons of gas all day but I was always invited back for another time! Now if your out burning 100 gallons an hour that's a whole other ball game!! I think it just boils down to common courtesy and being taught at an early age!! When people fuss about the the money ask them if they know how much a charter costs!! I made Alot of friends with a common interest and have never had a problem..
