Lost Lake good for rainbows (great mountain view too). No motors allowed; they rent canoes and rowboats.

But is it even advisable for Bass? I would think not since they are ambush feeders?

I will be fishing for largemouth bass in a lake in southern Oregon and wish any advice on how to fish chatterbaits. The lake is no deeper that 20 feet anywhere. Someone mentioned adding a trailer- does that mean a soft plastic, swimbait or trailer hook? thanks, pmf

What you propose looks great and I agree with others that if something works for you, why not stick with it. I do have a personal opinion though on the finer details. I use both types and think a spinning combo a little more versatile in terms of size of lure cast. But I use bait casts for bass always and bigger fish like northern pike or bay or offshore fish. When you have your thumb on a baitcast reel a strike is felt immediately from lure to your hand. For a spinning reel the line has to go around a corner first, the bail, then wind on a spool "sideways". It may be my imagination, but I feel that setup to be looser - more slack in line than with baitcast. Baitcast reels are usually more expensive going to the better quality, but I feel them to be "stronger" too. And although they take some getting used to in terms of avoiding backlash and bad casts, the modern reels are so much easier than my old standbys the Abu Garcia 5500cs. ( which I still use because it's caught so many fish with me). But I like all new Shimano baitcasts and most well- known brands make comparably smooth, hassle free reels. Experiment - you will really enjoy that, I believe! - pete from Oregon

Thanks Manuel. I did East Lake a couple of years ago, and flogged the water for 10 hours a day with everything I could think of. The only people who caught anything used stinkbait near the hot spring. The catch board read for 4 days under "What's Working" - NADA. I am trying Paulina . Thank you, Pete

Thanks very much. I have some of those books. Getting both a boat and a room for 4-6 days, and appropriate rates for such, is the problem. Thanks for the time and reply. -pete

Thank you friend. I'm finding northern Calif to be difficult as to cabins plus boats. Checking water levels does indeed reveal what you are saying. Being self-guided is limiting too as is being a single. I did look at Shasta Lake as another friend suggested and so far it looks way too busy with other vacationers, speedboats, huge groups, noise etc etc. Not enough money in it for them for a single fisherman even though I am willing to pay up to fish. -pete

Hello good folks. Anyone know where I can rent a cabin and a boat for 5-6 days in Oregon or northern Calif to fish for bass between June and Sept this year? I'm an older guy so need a bathroom/shower but as one person boat can be minimal. I don't need a guide nor rental equipment(been fishing for 50 years).. I'm not looking for a bargain, just trying to find ANY. Lodges just fine as long as they are not huge business groups/wedding venues/family reunion places mobbed with people. Many thanks, Pete in Oregon
