Nice looking rig. What were you fishing for and what were you fishing with. We’re you trolling?

Well that was a major Buzz Kill. I’m kind of figuring that. My son is coming up from the Bay Area to go camping. His wife reserved a boat for all day and asked me to take him fishing. I know it’s crowded there. I figured we’d go hang out at the damn and soak some worms or try our luck at trolling. Expectation level isn’t all that high. Sometimes, though, it’s not all about catching the fish but it’s just being out there. I admit it’s a lot more fun to actually catch one. Hope to prove you wrong but chances are you are exactly right.

Thanks guys. That’s what I was looking for. Hoochies sound like the way to go. Hey Saw, elevation of Bass Lake is 3400 some odd feet elevation, however it’s pretty warm around these parts. Wish me luck. Hopefully I’ll have a picture or two to share with you all.

Looking for advice on how to fish Bass Lake in Oakhurst, Ca. This will be my first fishing trip to Bass Lake. Have a boat rented for the entire day. Would love to hook up with some Kokanee or Rainbows. Anything would help.

It’s been a while but right at the bridge in the town of Strawberry, if you turn to the right and go up river a couple hundred yards is a great place to catch fish. Find out what day of the week they are stocking the lake and then go to the river the following morning or maybe that evening. Use a tiny shiny spinner and hold it in the current. You should do wonderful. Right under the bridge is good too as is down around the bend from the bridge. Good luck and may your line always stay straight.

Appreciate the info. An hour is still in the spur of the moment area. 2-1/2 hours = 5 hours round trip. Need to plan for that. I’ve fished McClure a few times. Once for Trout and I caught my limit in about an hour and a half. That was in November Time frame. Went again last June and only got Catfish. Wasn’t able to get far enough out in the channel to get to the trout. clCatfish, to me, are boring. Just feels like a rock on the end of your line. They were all in the Two pound catagory. Oh well, I’ll keep looking.

Thanks Again

Thanks for the info Spirit. I’ve gone to Lake McClure and caught a limit of Rainbows last winter. Lake was low and the main channel by the Bagby bridge was accessible from the shore. Took about an hour and a half for a limit. Fairly close to home, approx 35 minute drive. Took my wife out twice in the past month. Water level is way up so couldn’t get out to the main channel to catch trout. Instead we caught some cat fish. Boring. They don’t put up much of a fight, more like pulling a bag of rocks through the water. Really need a boat to fish that lake. Hopefully next year I will have.

I haven’t fished the Merced River as of yet. That will be the second step in getting my wife hooked. I need a couple of sure catch local spots first to get her hooked.

I’ve heard a lot about Cherry lake. Definitely has trout. Not sure how close it is, guess I need to look it up.

I know there are a lot of places to go within a 2 hour radius of here. Looking for something close by that you could go on a spur of the moment kind of thing, rather than having to plan for an all day trip.

Appreciate the info!

That’s my plan. Was just hoping Someone could give me a “sure” spot a little closer to home. Huntington lake was beautiful and she caught fish, it’s just too far away to just say hey let’s go.

Trying to hook my wife on fishing. Took her out last week to Huntington lake. She got her limit, however it was a 2-1/2 hour drive. We both love trout and looking for something a bit closer. She’s a rookie and I’ve fished most of my life. Hoping by getting her hooked, I can get out more often.
