I took all the advice and recommendations here to heart. Prepped my lines, bought some needed equipment, and researched some of the techniques that were new to me. It was a good learning opportunity and I have some good take-aways from this trip that I will use the next time.
Thank you for the advise and suggestions, will need to try it again hopefully next Spring.
Sincerely, Andrew
It was a wonderful week with my family. It would've been nice to hook something, if nothing else for my daughter. But it was still a great time together. On the pic, I tried to load the original iPhone file and it wouldn't accept it. So I then loaded it as a PNG file and that worked.
Thank you for the support and advise. Sincerely, Andrew
SKUNKED in Big Bear!
Had a wonderful week in Big Bear and was able to get onto the lake three times. I was really looking forward to our rental of a pontoon on morning and we were able to tie up on the buoy next to the "cabin" by the dam. Unfortunately there was a SNAFU with the marina and though I wanted to be there NLT 7:00am we didn't get there until 8:00am. Not horrible, but later than I would've liked.
We had 4 lines in the water and for the next five hours and tried everything; PowerBait, Salmon eggs, nightcrawlers, rubber worms, even corn. Most on slip bobbers set to 20-25 feet and one line I would bounce off the bottom. I even tried some top water bobbers, spinners, and needlefish spoons. Nothing!
For what it's worth, at any given time there were 8-12 other boats and countless people along the shoreline. Only saw 3 fish pulled up in 5 hours.
My daughter did manage to caught a great picture of our national bird flying over our boat. That was cool!

Hi all,
Thank you for letting me join the group. I registered a while back and have been really enjoying the pics, stories, and tips. This is my first post.
I live in Ventura County, Southern California and periodically stop by the Ventura pier on my way home from work to get my line wet. In September I will be in Big Bear Lake and need to set my gear up for some freshwater fishing. Big Bear Lake is home to Bass, Trout, Crappie, Bluegill, and other species. I am open to any recommendations to prep for that trip ... ya' know, those 2 or 3 must-have lures/baits for these fish.
If anyone has specific experience fishing in this lake and can recommend points or location, that would be awesome!
Thank you again, keep up the fun and positive site!!!
Here's a pic of my wildest catch so far off the pier.
Tight lines & bent poles everyone ... Andrew
