I have a hobie pro angler 14. My downriggers are 36 inches apart. As long as you dont turn to sharp you will be fine. If you start to get tangled up. You can always use dipsey divers on one if them or both. I hace as much luck with salmon on the dipsys as i do in the downriggers. Barney
Hi u93. If you can find used hobie pro angler 14. That should work great for you they are a sit on and arel good for 600 lbs. They only draw back is they weigh 120. Im 6 foot 3 and weigh 240 mine is stable enough so i can stand and fish out of it. I also trailer mine. Barney
Spend the money. And get a single yak trailer unless you have a real light yak 10 foot or shorter. I have a 14 and a 12 foot hobie and a trailer is the only way to get them around. Barney
Just make sure you get a good bed of silicone between the hull and transducer with no air bubbles. Barney
Whenever you can get out. Barney
Go with a standard PFD when it's cold get it big enough to wear over the jacket your wearing and a self inflating one for the summer time or when its hot. Barney
I use a 6 ft rod in my hobies their easier to land a fish with. With a 7 ft + rod its straight up in the air trying to land a fish and your taking the action of the rod out of the fight. Easier for fish to pull the hook. Barney
Try an 8 foot whuppin stick from Cabelas $ 29.00 it will last you 10 years their indestructible and a penn battle reel. You can fish for anything in the surf. Barney
I agree a beach cart is the way to go make sure it has sand tires on it. Barney
That outfit will be fine. You don't need heavier braid there are no snags on the bottom to tangle up on. Ive caught 20 lb + black drum using a penn pursuit 3000 with 8 lb braid. Enjoy the fight. Barney
I found a hobie pro angler 14. It was a demo from a hobie dealer for 2,000. I know it sounds pricey but i use it probably 150 days a year and it is still as solid as the day i bought it 6 years ago. Barney
Look at a Lews you cant brat them
Barney
Get a garnin striker 4 89 bucks ive got one on all 3 of my hobies and they work grea you can install the transducer inside so it shoots thru the hull just put in a layer of silicone when you install it. Barney
Mine is on the right side i have a hobie pro angler and the rudder control is on the left side. I cast from both sides and the graph doesnt interfere at all i think what ever you prefer. Barney
If its an older lews that a store still has for sale be careful when lews got into the spinning reel line they had problems with them anti reverse and line not spoiling correctly. But the newer ones are fixed and well made. Barney
