Hey all. I am thinking of taking a very small sabbatical from life, loading up my kayak and doing a little bass fishing in Florida. It has been a dream of mine to fish lake Okeechobee for many years now. From what I ha e seen bass seem to be much bigger in the south and being from Ohio I need to get away and get a line in the water badly. My question for everyone is has anyone fished Okeechobee on here or can they put me on a good lake in Florida. Just remember I am doing this on a kayak.

I lived in Fla for twenty years and fished the big O quite a bit. It can be tricky to locate bass because of the conditions changing due to weather. Cold fronts shut them down and if the wind changes direction the fish will move and you could be paddling for quite a bit to find them again. The south end of the lake always seems to be better but I would save yourself a couple of hours driving and fish Lake Toho in Kissimmee. Check out Dean Rojas' bag on Toho of 45 lbs. I go down in February and fish for about 4 days. Last year I caught a 9.5 pounder. Lake Toho has all kinds of cover, lilly pads. hydrilla, kissimmee grass and more. Always look for gin clear water to help locate fish.
