It's been my experience that the first 2 weeks of the season in ANY LOCAL are when the majority of keepers are caught😋. This late in the season there are slim pickens! But there are ALOT of people(not real fishermen) that keep the shorts😡. Some get caught but ALOT don't😣
NY State DEC reg is minimum of 4" thick
Leon
Have you fished the staircase area at all for steelies?
What do you do with the carp?
hey troy
bring those spots up to Long Island, NY. We're paying up to $5 ea. Use them for bait to catch stripers.(see my posts "Fall Striper Run.) they're not native around these parts but It's like crack to them!! They can't resist them.
THANX ! But it does bring a tear to my eye everytime i have to release the trophy size ones! You see, we fish the slot size of 28" - 35" for a keeper (1/day). Some days all the fish are too big to keep, and some of them are monsters!
How's the striper fishing by you?
Also i would guess live bunker would be good if u could find them, i did try drifting live eels other days but no luck w/ them. (think the eels work better at nite).
Mattnmar,
I fished stripers yesterday on the incoming tide, drifted the coast guard station and rocky shoreline east of the bridge (which have been productive in the past) but no hits that day. So we headed out to the ocean looking for bunker pods. Didn't see anything but a couple of Dolphin so we came back in, saw the surfcasters catch and release small ones. Drifted the southside shoreline w/live spot and within 15 min had our limit! and released 6 more! When we ran out of spot we used some frozen peanut bunker we'd collected earllier this year and they worked just as well.
G-Man, rest assured that whatever species I'm fishing for (fresh/salt water) ALL the fish I keep are within the limit (size and quanity)!
I ALWAYS fish by the rules.
NY reg is 16". Think it's same for CT & NJ
Maybe Cannonville reservoir. I've fished Perpacton and Ashroken in june and caught plenty of smallies
