The sound could be coming from the pall of the level wind line guide. You can get a ceramic replacement.

That's good, up here they're saying Nicaragua got hammered, the storm was huge! Glad you're all ok.

Thank you! Praying for those folks. Two major storms so close together have raised havoc. They are already disadvantaged.

Even when fishing from shore, vary the path and depth of your lure by moving the pole tip both side to side and up and down. Also speed up and slow down the retrieval speed.

Nice catch Grip, thanks for the pictures. Did you get any weather from the latest storm?

Thanks!
If you’re talking about Iota, it has stayed to the north through northern Nicaragua. We are getting intermittent rain but no wind. The temperature is holding and very comfortable.

Nice. Hear there is some good fishing. I have a friend who owens some land on Corn Island. I think thats somewhere around there.

Corn Island is off the eastern shore of Nicaragua in the Gulf of Mexico. Certainly closer than anyplace in the USA.

It didn't chase you off and it didn't look too bad in the pictures. You had a good day, for sure. Thanks for sharing, Gripnriprod.

Swells were 4’-6’ with winds to 10kts.

I agree on the question of 'sporty'. I've been out rockfishing in deep water, and because there are currents moving in different directions at different depths, your line goes in different directions between you and the bottom so that you can't feel when you have fish on. Second, they're dead (inflated) before you get them half way to the surface, so there's no fight. That isn't really fishing, it's just ....Gathering fish.
Since bringing them up kills them, there's no catch and release. Made for some good meals, though!

Actually, there is a way to release a fish that has been traumatized by ascending from deep water.

Bottom fishing is just not as sporty. That’s all. Drop to the bottom. Reel up. See what you get. Usually not much of a fight. On the other hand, tie into a 25# Dorado on light tackle. That’s sporty

Going out Monday for grouper and snapper. While a totally different kind of fishing, I als hope to get into some Dorado. Fishing with my favorite charter out of Marina Pez Vela, Quepos, Costa Rica.
ETA had a significant impact on the rivers, dumping a lot of debris into the ocean but conditions have improved so we are anticipating good fishing.
Pictures to follow (I’m hoping).
