As a scuba diver I can confirm that sound travels very far under water. I would recommend having some removable carpet strips in the bottom of your boat to cushion even the sound of your boots moving around or anything you might drop. Every hard surface on the boat will transmit sound into the water, such as hitting the gunnels with the oars, anchor rope or chain noise, too. Even your rod or reel hitting the boat anywhere will make detectable noise. Can't hurt to be quiet.

What a beautiful spot you have there. Are there any game fish? What state are you in?

Hi Natachia,

I bet your learned plenty from your Grandpa. Don't see you asking much about how or where to fish. Keep us informed, OK?

Hey Dennis,

Glad to see you piping up. I'm from Redding originally, and still have a cabin on the Scott River. I'm a die- hard fly fisherman, and tried my luck on Eagle Lake a couple of times. It sure gets cold there in the fall! I can't remember if I caught any fish, but I do remember seeing some really big ones.

What's the biggest you have caught, and how do you fish for them?

Bob O - that's very clever. How do you anchor the PVC to the trailer bed?

Welcome, Fredfish from CT. This is DryFlySam from Florida. I mostly fly fish for bonefish on the flats (wading), and occasionally for Snook in the Everglades. What do you like to fish for?

Have enjoyed reading this forum for a few days and decided to join the fun. I am an "old Fart" too. 72 years young. Launched my Astro Bass yesterday at dawn only to find fog so thick you could eat it with a spoon. Cold too....mid thirties. I wasn't the only dummy out there. Several Crappie nuts were gearing up at the ramp. My enthusiasm waned, however after several hours of no bites and the wind got up. Oh well..."a bad day fishing"...and all that.
Looking forward to some like-minded discussions and lie-swapping.

Welcome aboard. I'm same age, doin pretty good. Originally and occasionally still a fly fisherman from N. California. I live on an island south of Miami, and get out maybe a dozen times a year wading the flats in the Atlantic Ocean. I fish for bonefish with a fly and actually catch one or two every time I go. Also do some snook fishing in the Everglades, also on a fly. Guess I'm hard core with the fly fishing. Just like to cast, make my own leaders, study new knots, etc. Wish I had company down here to share stories with. Hope you stick with it up there in Georgia and just enjoy yourself and being in nature.

Chief Bruce,

Thanks for the advice. We have both shrimp and crabs (several types) on the flats.

I am trying to learn to catch bone fish on a fly on the flats. My skill level is intermediate. I have caught around two dozen bone fish in the last 4 years. Can anyone suggest a few different flies to try? Please include name, size, where to buy them online and a photo, if possible.

I like to make my own leaders. Any suggestions would be appreciated as to the type of material, line to leader knot, leader section lengths, tippet type and length and all knots along the way, including a loop knot to hook.

Finally, what is the best way/tool to bend down the barb. Some hooks have a curve just opposite the barb, and the steel there is very thin. How do you flatten the barb without weakening the hook?

Thanks for any advice you feel like sharing.
