Both the Sandy and the Clack are full of Coho. But it has been days since the last rain and those fish will be turning black. This may be gearing up for another one of these fall seasons where there is little or no rain and the fish have lockjaw.

Be ready whenever the next rain hits. There are plenty of fresh ones downstream. There used to be a lineup of great holes that you could hike into down around Dodge Park. The pipeline hole was legendary. But, like so often happens, the owners of that land, the girl scout camp closed off our access. At least by way of the trails. Another popular one is the Cedar Creek hatchery hole if you're willing to undergo quite a hike. And if you can handle the hiking, you might consider Eagle Creek. Just remember that your window of opportunity might be pretty narrow this year.

The original 55 HP Evinrude did start and later died while attempting to fire up the trolling motor. The trolling motor ran for a while and then it died. And we fired back up the big motor and it continued to run from then on. Later we were able to get the trolling motor started again and it continued to run from then on. So - success 🤗

Went out just long enough to check out this boat from 1968 and troll a bit.

There was virtually no shore action happening in and around meldrum bar. A handful of boats around the mouth and further up in the harbor. It was a pretty hot day Saturday.

Oh yeah! I saw some caught. I was down towards the mouth of Eagle Creek right off the highway there. hike into the spot you know, some snagging and a few hit the beach. Super clear, slow water.

They are all the way up the Sandy to the mountain. Watercolor is pretty decent.

Unfortunately the included pic is a dead one, gutted and left lying in the hole! Sad.

Got a report from a wildlife official on trout stocking if you want to go for them. Area lakes being stocked this week, all of them receiving trophy trout (18 to 20 in). Sunset lake, Lost lake, Coffenbury lake. And perhaps Trojan pond as well. Sea run cutthroat trout are in Gnat Creek and a few others around there. And the Lower Columbia has reopened for hatchery Coho. The Chinook run has been outstanding and The Coho are right now on their heels.

Too bad. I seen a guide do something similar on the Willamette River before. Except he took the rod from the shad fisherman and snapped the line on the big Chinook. I even videotaped it. It's on YouTube. These guides are into horsing their fish in. Not everyone's gear is a stout as theirs . 🫤

There should be, if you are referring to the Oregon coast. But I caution you, they have some very strange regulations on that river. You got to read them very closely.
