Good luck. La Paz can be great, or at least used to be. It's been about 14 years. I enjoyed surf fishing. I think Gulp Alive sandworms would be as good down there as here in the surf. I was not aware of them back then. I can tell you when fishing lures, it is not possible to fish them to fast, under the water or on top. Even with the new high speed reels. The fish there are very aggressive.

Thanks Baja! You’re correct, very aggressive and good fighters! (Eating too!!)

Different captains today, but same locations with the exception of a couple of different spots. The whole bait operation went much more smoothly and fast today, but I timed the actual trip to the fishing grounds - 1 1/2 hours. But you can’t go wrong fishing sea mounts, it’s a natural fish attraction, so if they’re there and biting……..

Like yesterday the first rod down and we’re bit, only difference is we all reeled in because what bit was a blue marlin. To make a long story short, 45 minutes later and the 100”, 100lb. Marlin was in the boat. The captain (different one than yesterday) handled the boat very well, kept up with the fish as it ran and wore the fish down while Joe kept the line tight and gained line when he could. He was wiped afterwards……

That was the only keeper our boat landed, had numerous hits but all came unbuttoned or cut the line. I did manage to pull a 6-7’ gray shark up to the boat that we cut loose and the other boat landed 3 nice yellow tail, also with missed opportunities. All in all an exciting day. We did take some of the yellow tail and marlin back to the hotel restaurant and had them prepare dinner for us- yellow tail sashimi and ceviche with grilled marlin steaks. Fantastic meal……………….

Looking forward to the rest of the week!

The marlin and boat captain, I think he was as happy and proud as we were!

Thanks for the info Bapa! That’s exactly the experience we look for. Our past trips to Alaska have not been canned packages, we go and rent out homes or get rooms at lodges or BnB’s, then make our own way to the rivers or book halibut charters. We’ve been to Klawock, Soldotna and Petersburg. I’ll keep your info for future ref. This year we decided to try something different and have come to La Paz Mexico. I’ll be posting the whole 5 days, good or bad…..

Made it to Lap Paz on Sunday, no real hiccups except our van driver/shuttle was pulled over by the Mexican National Gaurd and had to pay $500 pesos to continue to La Paz from the Cabo airport, hmmmmmmm.

1st day of fishing was on Monday, breakfast at 6:00am, shuttle to marina at 7:00am, motored out and purchased sardines and then caught mackerel to use as bait. Then an hour cruise to the sea mount fishing grounds in a 23 ft center console, long ride out, long ride in. Started fishing around 10:00 am, our tour company had 3 boats there and our group occupied 2 of them. Our captain baited 3 rods and set them out and the bite was immediately on. The first rod took off and he handed it to me, then a second rod took off and it was handed to Jim. About the time I got my fish to the boat, gaffed and in, the third rod took off and was handed to Tom. Jim got his fish to the side of the boat and it was landed/gaffed. Tom’s fish got off. After that we had 2 more fish on and lost and had an occasional bite, made for a long morning. On the way back in while trying for Dorado we hooked into a snapper that the captain landed by himself. The captain was a good fisherman, but his teaching/training skills and “bedside” manor needs work. Not the best day, but not the worst…….

Total fish count 3 for our boat (+1 skip jack that was released) and 1 for our partner boat with the release of a 4’ shark of some kind.

3 yellowtail and 1 snapper total for the day.

We still have 4 days of fishing and if we really get into them hope my old bones hold up! Also this is the group that I go to Alaska Salmon fishing with, we decided to try something different this year.

Boarding at the marina.

As you all know I caught some nice Trout yesterday. I made a mess of filliting the big one and just gutted and cut the heads off the rest. They were too big to fit in a pan without it, but would go on a grill just great.
ANNYWAY, I took all the guts, heads and skin and bones out to this stump bout 70 yards out in the forest back of my house.
I walk down the bear trail a ways and then go bout 40 yards off the trail to this big stump .
I put all the pile on that stump and left it ovetnight.
Today I went to check on it and there wasn't a single scrap of anything left there. They must have even licked the stump.😳😂👍
Just thought some of you would like to know.
I have a pretty good relationship with them.
They stay outta my house and I leave them alone. Even feed them from time to time.
Haven't seen one this year yet. But I still have all my bear boards down.😁👍🤠

Yes, a game camera would be cool, I have one at my house in San Ramon just to see what’s crawling in and out from under my deck (drives my dog crazy cuz she smells them from above the deck), they work good.

Well it was low tide but making some casts felt like a good idea around 9:30pm.
This spotted bay bass fell for a storm lure inside Oceanside harbor.

Nice Artist! Night time fishing is a little different!

Well it is back to reality today. After the great outing with Tyler on Monday was fired up to give DVL a try. Got to the lake early and it was fairly dense fog and cold until about 10:30. Throw in the algae bloom starting and moss on your hook about 75% of the time, not an ideal day. Managed 10 fish and all were small. Biggest, maybe 1 1/2 lb. Looks like I will be heading back to Skinner or maybe another outing at SanV.

No skunk Garey, that’s saying something.

Hey guys went out fishin today. Little cold to start but it warmed up to be a pretty day.
Started off in the West Fork Carson but didn't have any luck. Caught 1 little native rainbow bout 7 inches long and released it. I tried several of the usual spots but couldn't find any fish.
Decided to just go on over to the East Fork on the other side of Markleeville.
First hole I tried I hooked into a nice one, The river flow was goin pretty good but runnin clear and not TOO high.
I fought it for maybe 5 or 6 min and then was able to get it on shore. Was about 18 inches and 2 1/2 pounds.
I rebaited and retied the hook, good thing cause I broke the hook gettin it out.
About 15 min after I landed the first one I was back in the water.
It took me a few min to get another bite but it was a HEAVY fish and it was stayin out in the fast water and was deep.
It took me bout 15 to 20 min to land it and I really didn't think my 6# line was goin to hold pullin it up on shore, but it did. It was 25 inches and bout 5 pounds. Looked the size of a small salmon or decent steelhead.
Fished there a little more but only got 1 more bite and it wouldn't bite again.
Moved on to a few other holes and only had another small native hit but it came off so I left. Didn't want to catch it and possible have it die so I went to another couple holes.
The last hole is the hole I wanted to start at but a survey crew was workin there so I didn't stop.
They were still there when I came back through but I stopped anyway and pulled 2 more fish out of that hole. One was just a decent keeper but the other one was bout 17+ inches and bout 2 pounds.
I had to pull them up through a whitewater shute to get them to me and I really didn't think the big one was gonna stay on but it did.
I decided to call it a day after that. I didn't need to try for a 5th one. Those 4 were plenty.
I tried to fillet the big 25 incher and it was nearly a total disaster.
Was nothin like the Stripers I fillet all the time.
I decided that I wouldn't do that again.
I wanted to take some pics of all the snow still on the mountains and of the river, BUT, I left my ph at the house so no pics till I got home.
