I use Off Shore side planers. They're a little spendy, but worth the extra. They come with two line releases. I've switched out the standard release that comes with the board (the release closest to the rod tip) to an OR-18 style release. It's a firmer connection to the line and can be adjusted so the board will not come loose, yet can be removed with one hand when reeling in. The trick with the standard orange or red release that comes with the board (the one closest to the rod tip) was to wrap the line around the release an extra turn after clamping it through the jaws of the release. I also upgraded to the Tattle flag, which helps indicate when you have a fish or weeds on the line. You can find pointers on You-Tube or on-line also. I used them for the first time last year and after some tweaking, they worked as designed. Good luck!

Fly By Nyte guide service out of Rufus fishes below John Day Dam. Touche' has a nice boat and is quite knowledgeable. He specializes in Walleye. I went with him last year and it was a very good (and productive) trip.

If you've been fishing for awhile and the problem is just now surfacing, I'd suggest switching out your line. Line goes bad after awhile based on a variety of factors. You might want to change your line and see if the problem disappears.
