Great job. You could make another one and deliver it up here to Oregon if you get bored.

My 93-year-old fishing buddy just told me yesterday that he takes Viagra three times a week to help the blood circulation in his lower legs from the knees down. He said it is supposed to open up the veins.

Good that foul hooked are returned. Was accused of keeping foul hooked fish before. If you have ever hooked a SPRINGER (Spring run Chinook salmon) as I have in pretty fast water using the light gear I described before (9 1/2' rod rated 8-12 LB and using 11 LB test leader) when that fish turns down stream in that rapid water, I had to follow. Those on the other side who saw that accused me of having to follow because of being foul hooked! I confronted one of those guys once, he slunk out of there. really pissed me off! I don't have to cheat. The reason we were accused was because I happened to have a sled to launch about 1/4 mile down stream and to motor up to the fishing area and beach my boat to fish. Those that didn't have a boat were there for envious and complained that everybody on other side were Cheating by snagging salmon. I have told a true story before on here about the game department sneaking into the fishing spot by driving down stream and driving up river and hiking in behind us to catch all of us bad people. That was real interesting, LOL.

I hooked a chinook in the gill plate right near the mouth and my buddy netted it for me and said it was foul-hooked so I told him to let it go. We were joking around about it and someone downstream called the state police. By the time they got there another guy we always say fishing there came down landed a fish and hooked another one that got away right as the police got there. They asked me if he hooked the fish legally. I said yes both fish he hooked were in the mouth. The one fish he landed had three hooks in it that were broken off. Everyone I know that fishes there at the hatchery on the Trask foul hooks a fish now and then. Most guys know when it is foul hooked and break their line. I know it was me they called the police on, but I released the fish that I hooked in the gill plate by accident. It probably bit my bait and when I set the hook it l came out of his mouth and hooked the gill. The police were questioning me as to whether this other guy's fish was legally hooked. They said they got a call that someone was snagging fish just because we were joking about foul-hooking fish. Ware these other guys were, they were too far away, there is no way they could tell if the fish I hooked was not in the mouth it was pretty close to the jaw. I think n Oregon they offer a reward for turning people in that are doing things illegal.

Exactly, on gear loss. For my Steelhead/Springer rod, I am using a G loomis blank 8-12 lb 9 1/2' blank rod I made. I am bank fisherman casting with a bait caster reel and drifting. Since there is so many balls of line in the bottom of the river where I fish I have to do something to keep from losing my gear plus a bunch of line, so here is what I use. By the way I am using a very small sinker, maybe 3/4 ounce and a Corkie so don't have a bunch of POP gear to lose a bunch of money. But I also don't want to lose a bunch of line either. So I use 50 lb super braid and 11 lb leader for the "FUSE". The Super braid is about the same dia as 12 lb mono. Now if I ever hang up, I never use the rod to break off, I let the rod just lay on the line and wrap the line around my coat forearm and pull straight away on the line. I may lose my sinker, the corkie, but not the line. When I notice the line starting to get a little fuzzy, I just cut off a couple feet and re rig, but no nicks in my line to cause a failure and loss of a bunch of line. Lost a big Sturgeon once because of a probable nick so changed to braid there too. Hey, I know everybody has different methods and just giving you my method. Also I concluded a week ago that at my age, 8th decade, I no longer try to convince anybody (or care for that matter) that my way is the best, just my way. same as I used to do when teaching fellow rod builders how to weave or do other things building rods. I would just tell them, this is my way and maybe you can pick up something that will help you do your method.

My two fishing buddies one is in his 8th decade and the other is in his 9th I am in my 6th. I use a spinning real and just hold the real when I can't slingshot the line lose and pull straight back until the line breaks. I have tried wrapping my line on a stick before. One time I thought I was snagged my bobber went down immediately after hitting the water while salmon fishing I tried to get it free and was looking around for a stick to wrap my line on after picking it up and noticed my line was much closer to shore. The fish swam away breaking my line and I knew it was a sturgeon on my line. It didn't move or fight.

I just know that Chinook are deep-water fish and like to hang out in deeper depths. Good luck. Show us some pictures if you catch any.

I have fish all my life and have a question that I almost feel silly for asking. I have always use a lighter leader line than my main line, the thinking being that 1- would only lose my short leader line instead of a lot of main line, 2- I use a Caroline Rig a lot and figure would only lose the hook or lure instead of my swivel and weight, 3- if the fish breaks the line he would only have a short leader line to swim around with instead of a long main line. But I see lots of guys on here and you-tube that they use a heavier leader line than main line and was wondering why. Thanks ahead of time for any reason why.

Everyone I have known here in Oregon uses a heavier main line and lighter leader. Especially in clear water. The expert salmon fishermen foul-hook salmon every now and then and they know when the fish is foul-hooked and they will just break their line rather than bring a fish in they have to release. And the thinking is it is better to lose the hook and bait than to lose the rest of your gear like flashers and bobbers.

All pharmaceutical companies have felony convictions in their history. All you have to do is go to the CDC's own website openvaers.com. vaers stands for vaccine adverse events reporting system. And the doctors are saying that adverse events are underreported by about 80%.

This was posted at fishing access on the Bighole river. I got out for a few casts last weekend while passing through on the way back from Jackson Hot Springs.

A couple of years ago fishing off the dam at Detroit Reservoir I hooked a nice fish. While reeling it in I saw what looked like a big carp grab my fish and then went down with it in its mouth. It came up on the bank and it was a big otter. We played tug-of-war for a while and he finally won.

I think it means the same in English. It could be because I have Scottish roots and always seem to be dumfungled.

Current Chinook fishing reports and river conditions.

Check with the ODFW. I believe they just closed the Columbia River for a while. They have been doing that on and off every year. The Willamette and Clackamas have been getting some fish but not a lot yet. Also, the Multnomah channel has fish coming into it.
