Each Friday night after work, Bubba would fire up his outdoor grill and cook a venison steak. But all of Bubba's neighbors were Catholic.....
And since it was Lent, they were forbidden from eating meat on Friday.
The delicious aroma from the grilled venison steaks was causing such a problem for the Catholic faithful that they finally talked to their priest.
The Priest came to visit Bubba, and suggested that he become a Catholic. After several classes and much study, Bubba attended Mass, and as the priest sprinkled holy water over him, he said, "You were born a Baptist, and raised a Baptist, but now you are a Catholic."
Bubba's neighbors were greatly relieved, until Friday night arrived, and the wonderful aroma of grilled venison filled the neighborhood.
The Priest was called immediately by the neighbors, and, as he rushed into Bubba's yard, clutching a rosary, prepared to scold him, he stopped and watched in amazement. There stood Bubba, clutching a small bottle of holy water which he carefully sprinkled over the grilling meat and chanted:
"You wuz born a deer, you wuz raised a deer, but now you is a catfish."
Each Friday night after work, Bubba would fire up ... (show quote)

How did you make out in your neighborhood?

We're up on Alton Mountain, so heavy rain in the summer isn't usually a problem. But, rain during the winter causes problems with ice and snow clogging drainage systems.
Marie made it to church in the morning, the bulk of the damage occurred in the afternoon. So it was a lazy day in front of the TV, something we rarely do.

How hot is too hot?

Good ones Chief, but you have to add some humidity. Hot and humid the last few days, and 6.3 inches of rain TODAY. Most major roads are closed in Alton.

Love ponds like that! Fish seldom ever see an artificial lure, if ever, so it's either a snack or a threat which they dispatch by inhaling it! 🎣🎣🎣

Most of the folks I know are catch and release, except in the winter when we leave some small slime darts, perch on the ice for the Bald eagles and other critters. It's not unusual to catch a fish that had been hooked before, I really enjoy seeing that.

Wow, that's a gem of location! Stocked really nicely!

DC, not stocked at all, just a lot of fish. Actually, there is an overabundance of fish, very little fishing pressure due to lack of access.

Man, Fireguy--that pond just BEGS to get fished with topwater, esp. along the grassline! In addition to gills, what other species call it home?🐸🐸🐸🎣🎣🎣

Top water is just starting to pick up DC.
We have a lot of LM, pickerel, YP, and panfish. Still get an occasional SM, sucker, fallfish, or bullhead.
I was out today in hot, muggy conditions and picked up a few, including this guy. Also entertained by a Loon.

Sorry you got rained out! Here in north NJ we had sun/clouds until 1pm then thunder and lightning directly overhead, rained @ 45 min then cleared up to hot sun. Fireworks all over the place last night and the gigantic full moon came up over Manhattan @11pm. HUGE!!

Rain, rain, and more rain recently. Our pond continues rise, affecting the fishing. Did manage to get out for an hour on this 4th after the heavy rain subsided. Caught a few, and lost a few. But, watching the skyline, I decided it was time to call it quits as the clouds moved closer. Glad I did, it dumped just as I covered the boat.

Sounds like a plan! We put the fully loaded Bass boat in every morning then came in for a break. Went back out in afternoon again till around 6 pm. What a time we had fishing. Great part is you don't have to venture far out of Alton Bay to catch fish. Went out to Cow Island and Rattlesnake Island and fished the shoreline and saw many beds. So easy casting over the bed and letting lure drop in nest and bang, you got yourself a Smallie...lol

That sounds like so much fun. I never fished beds until the end of this years spawning season on our little pond.

I went Sunday May 28th to Sunday June 4th. Not a cloud in the ski and temps in the 80's and low 90's.Had a blast and so happy the weather cooperated. 2nd year with my friend renting a cottage in Alton Bay. Already looking forward to next year...lol

Yes, that was a great stretch of weather.
I live up on Alton Mountain, 8 minutes from the bay. Give me call next year, maybe get a cup of Java, and chat.

Glad you did well on the Big Lake Candy. It's a good thing you aren't there today, it's been a steady rain all day at Alton Bay.

This is Big Cedar Lake north of Milwaukee.

I hate days like that. It reminds me of being in fire camp, and I haven't been to one this year. But its still early in the year. πŸ”₯
