I just bought a cabin in Blue Ridge....close mid Jan.....hope to be able to meet a few local fishermen and get active there this spring and summer.....love fly fishing for trout but am a novice at it....generally been a bass spin fish guy.....am somewhat limited physically at age 83.....anyone out there in the Fannin county area?

Had a 26 ft Trojan cruiser on upper Chesapeake Bay for 17 years....had a Danforth plus 6 ft of chain and never had an anchor problem....chain kept the anchor down well with a solid connection.

No news.....we rented a house on Toccoa thinking we could fish....no such luck .....guides booked on alternative streams....

Was in Blue Ridge a few weeks ago....on Toccoa R......fishing lousy as they opened the dam every day and water turned to chocolate ....rose 2 to 3 feet......and came downstream with a super fast current.....you might want to fish other streams....

St. John's is a North flowing river that drops very few feet from source to mouth.....you likely have several more months of slow ebb ahead of you there.....not normal till spring .....when the rainy starts again......

Update: 9 days in a row flood gates on dam opened....water quickly ran strong and rose 2 to 3 feet....muddy chocolate water....no fishing possible on Toccoa....all we saw was kayakers enjoying the super fast current flow....

Been here 3 days....fog in AM as temps drop into 50s....water " normal flow".....and then they open the dam and the water turns to chocolate with a fast current just after noon where I am 5 miles s of the dam.....no fishing possible.....water rises over a foot in half an hour......talked to 1 local who beat water in AM for 6 hours and he got 2......8 to 10" rainbows......but weather beautiful....quiet....serene...

Low 70s not too bad.....fast water gives them less time to inspect flies and streamers....going to try some new " bugs and ants" on the bench now.....

Any info about how conditions are there? Is rain heavy like over in Chattanooga area? How about dam openings? Water temps normal....or warmer than normal? We will be living right on the river about 5 miles below the dam.....

Remind them you are going to use it for salt water....and check out the reel you have ...perhaps save it for fresh water and get separate one reserved for salt?

A good access ramp....actually several....located in Astor.....the ramp on the west side of river is larger.....
