choupique definition: noun: Louisiana See bowfin. Origin of choupique Louisiana, French from Choctaw, shupik

Us Cajuns, I’m like Justin Wilson, a half bleed, Lorio on my mothers side, picked up a lot from the Choctaw Indians, they influenced our cooking as well. Our gumbo file, ground Sasafrass leaves came from the Choctaw’s.

Choupique or Bowfin. Have caught on artificial worms in freshwater and yes I have eaten them. We make fish patties and pan fry them.

Choupique! Sounds Cajun to me!

My grandad, many years ago made me a flag pole for my front yard. Made one for pretty much everybody in the family. His trademark was the ball on top of the pole was a tail light from an old 50 something Buick. He got them from junk yards. Also gave me my first car, a 1950 Buick special with a straight 8 and three on the tree.

My mother’s favorite car was a 1953 Buick Century. Your welcome on the service, I’d do it again. I always thought I’d like to hot rod a straight 8.

We did good. No damage plenty of rain and wind. Wish I could say the same for the folks to my west.

They have been hammered for sure. Definitely in our prayers for sure. Got relatives in Lake Charles.

In 1962 I had friend that almost talked me into roughnecking with him, long story! Anyway, I ended up in the Army. How did y'all fair out from the storm?

You could always use a section of drill stem.

Sounds like Ruffneck talk.

That’s a good one and sums it up perfectly. I sure wish more people knew what “Old Glory” even is. Sad so many don’t and couldn’t care less.

Mom & Pops and small manufacturing have just about been swallowed or put out of business by the conglomerates. I read that the Lucky 13 was Heddons most successful lure. Again thanks for the post up.

Thanks for the run down memory lane Geomike. I think there were at least 3 different sizes and there were some jointed versions.

The lucky 13 came in variety of colors. Red and white, red with scale design, green perch and Green frog to name a few, I have owned each of those colors. I say it is a Lucky 13. The bottom lip doesn’t protrude as much on this lure but I have noticed that some do protrude more than others. Why? I could speculate but that is all it would be. This one is a an old wooden one and has the glass eyes. If I’m not mistaken the first ones were hand made.
