Just something to think about. Back when I used to put decks on my boats I always put hinges on them for easy access to more storage such as life vest and such. Just thought I'd throw that out there for thought.
First thing I would recommend is a good rod that is sensitive. Then get the best reel you can afford. Your rod is a lot more critical in catching a bass than a reel is. You still want a good casting reel which you can get at around $80 to a $100 dollars. But trust me the rod should come first.

Going up to nickajack next week. How's the bream and bass doing?
They might already be bedding but the next full moon is prime.
When I first tried a baitcaster you should have heard some of the things I said about it. The best way to get use to it is in your yard. Start out small and work up to longer cast. If you're not sure how to set up your reel there's a lot of videos on youtube to help you out. Just don't give up.
What's funny some guys will fish black grape or june bug but when you say purple they don't do purple. Well I really think it's one of the best go to colors you can buy.
Less in my area. To many of these good ol' boy's think you're crazy to catch and release. If you catch it you are suppose to eat it.
Couple of mid-diving crankbaits, couple of good spinnerbaits and a bag of junebug zoom trick worms along with a bag of green pumpkin worms. Never fished N. Carolina but these work every where else.
If I were just fishing for bigger fish I'd go with the spinnerbait but if I was hungry I'd go with the plastic. In other words are we talking good times or hard times?
Outdoor world rod and reel repair: 2300 east Turner: suite M:Springfield Mo.: 65803. They're great on reels but I've never used them for rods. Give them a call and see if it's what you need.
Mike. Been here all my life. I have with-in an hour drive Perdido, Escambia, Blackwater, Yellow and Choctawhatchee rivers. Why would anyone want to live anywhere else? Only bad thing I'm two hours from Seminole. That's getting to be a long drive for these old bones.
Take a piece of braid and go to Wally world. Go to the kid section of scissors and find the ones that cuts braid. An old buddy of mine used them all the time. Said they cut braid better than any thing he had found. He worked for Mann's baits and and was cutting braid all the time, so he should have known.
Most any Lew's or Shimano over $100 are decent reels.
What fisherman doesn't carry a sharp knife? Or you can spend X amount for a fancy line cutter.
