The lake is a giant weed bed so be prepared for that. The old Wingate fishing camp can tell you the best areas.

You will need plenty warm clothes and a rain suit for Halibut fishing. It can get really nasty out in the Halibut fishing areas. We fished 495 feet deep near the Bering Islands [45miles from Homer] and the boat rocked back and forth in 5 ft seas. You really should have your catch processed in portions so that you don't have to thaw out more than you will eat. It is flash frozen to your specifications and flown to you at home. The Silver Salmon is what we fished for. They will be processed per your instructions. It will be freezing cold on the river but as the day goes on you will take off some clothing. Find some gloves that have fingers that fold back for top half of fingers so you can operate reels. If you wade and fish you will need pads for bottom of shoes that prevent slipping on rocks in the water. Take pictures, look for animals and fantastic scenery. You will have the time of your life. Wish I could go! I drove there and back from Georgia in a motorhome in 2004. Enjoy!!

I have heard good reports for Lake Weisse in Alabama and Lake Grenada in Mississippi and want some opinions on which lake is best for Crappie fishing.

I hope you have good lucking those streams .I saw a man fly fishing in the Kenai River at the landing near Sterling. There is a good camp ground at Sterling, a short distance on the right before you get to Soldotna. There are campgrounds in Soldotna but they are filled up early. DON'T run into a Moose. The law does not take your side. Wish I Could go back. I am curious about why you are going to Denali.

I made that trip from Georgia and enjoyed most of the trip. I did not notice any fishing holes along the lines you mentioned on the Alcan. There were some huge lakes that were not in use all along the way and perhaps you can fish those. When you get to Alaska there are plenty of streams for fishing fly rods. Be sure to read regulations on parts of streams that you fish because they differ from one section to the other. Great Scenery ahead for all of you. You can camp at Homer on the Spit and there is a Salmon inlet where you can fly fish or rod and reel. Good luck!
