Thanks for the history lesson RJS. BEING A NATIVE TEXAN raised in Houston I think Texas History is very interesting. I remember Texas History and US History in school. Back when they taught the history of our GREAT COUNTRY. Now some people want to change or simply tear it down. So Sad.

That really was not that long ago! I feel all Native Americans were treated terribly. Man is really a violent animal and that continues today unfortunately!

Word of warning. I was replying to another thread and typed STRIPER and spell checker changed it to STRIPPER.
Maybe guys know the difference but don’t proofread, or just want to stir up some fun 🤩.

I occasionally use live shad for white bass and hybrid striper. I hook them through eye socket. I don’t know how well that would work for minnows.

If these guys that confuse STRIPPERS 👯‍♀️with Stripers 🐟 read the digest you think they would learn the difference or check their spelling. Flytier it does get old but is still fun 🤩.

Back in the fifties me an my grandma would walk to a small pond in Blacks Field (now an industrial complex) and catch small sunfish. We kept anything over an inch, sometimes hand size (a lunker to a 4 year old). She would scale, gut, and fry um. I got the big ones and she ate the little ones bones and all like potato chips.
Thanks for the topic and memories.

Did HARBOR FREIGHT make LED Submersible trailer lights 20 years ago as you posted earlier?

PapaJ when you come fishing with me on Palestine you can’t bring it. I only allow ACC CRAPPIE STIX on my boat. LOL

I might have to try that.

PapaJ if you keep fishing with Mark you are going to need more crappie recipes than just filet and fry.

WAR EAGLE good for you 😞. I fish salt and fresh in TX. Saltwater fisherman tend to be more conservation minded. Example (Redfish over 28” can not be retained). My freezer is full of of 2-10 lb blue cats, therefore I release the big ones. If you need the food it’s your choice. I’ve said my opinion. I’m out.

You are exactly right spirit. Shimano Stradic Ci4 in my opinion is just about the limit of how good a reel should be.
Affordable kinda and bulletproof in my opinion
Thing is. I love top end equipment. Have expendable income and well I’m a junkie when it comes to high end gear.
Does anyone need it ? Gotta admit . Hell no.

Am I proud of it? Hell yea!!
Am I gonna stop ? Wife says so.
My work schedule is still brutal even at my advanced state in my career . Was 260 days on road last year. This year with Covid I’m pushing 120 . Probably 180 by year end . Typical work week is between 65 and 80 hours. I’m getting older and it’s wearing on me a little.
Generally buy top end stuff after racking 80 hours OT on a check. Usually 1000s of miles away from home. Kinda a gift to myself For when I get home
When I do get to spend some time on the water I really enjoy it .

Hasn’t always been that way. I am a workin man. But always got the best I could afford. Really appreciate Nice fishing gear.
Cost is relative. But I always encourage get the best that’s in the budget. More cost effective and enjoyable in the long run .
You are exactly right spirit. Shimano Stradic Ci4 ... (show quote)

Bragger you have been working to hard! You missed spelled Ohio in your location.

I don’t have much interest in visiting the upper west coast for numerous reasons. However a SALMON fishing trip is on my bucket list. Where is the best area to go that’s good fishing and not too political lol.

How are the Sakana reels and rods?
I bought a couple for light Muskie but haven had a chance to use them
Did a online search and couldn’t find any info

Here in Texas we don’t have Muskie but I have several for Crappie fishing. They are remarkably smooth for low cost reels (discounts online and honored in store). I am a Shimono man but find them more than adequate for my use. I use size 10 but larger are available. I only have one rod so far, a 5’ dock rod that will swing a 2lb slab.

Howdy,

As previously stated, I'm getting back into crappie fishing after years away.

What would you recommend for a light action spinning reel for a person that can't spend hundreds of dollars?

Thanks for your input.

PapaJ I just found and really like the Sakana reels from Gander Outdoors. I have two SK-s4 on my ACC jig poles and a SK-s3 on my 5” dock rod (also a Sakana). The reels have lots of bearings and are smooth. Gander advertises them online up to 35% off and will match instore.

Sorry we didn’t meet up The Villages this morning. I talked to Mark early before you got there. I went by at noon and y’all were gone. Early limit my guess.

All right thanks for the pics

Nice fish! But I hope you CPR. That fish probably’s fifteen years old and would be the mother of a lot of baby blues.
I personally only keep um under 15lbs.
Everyone makes their own choices.
