If you have a graph look for brush piles. If you can’t ding any look for downed trees at the waters edge that has fallen in deeper waters.

I’ve been doing well throwing 1.5 squarebill crankbaits in colors Shad and chartreuse with a black back. I’ve been targeting sand flats and creek mouths. Also where there is grass edges toss your squarebill almost parallel to the bank. You’ll have plenty of fun.

Down here in west central Georgia smallmouth just aren’t down here. But I go to Ontario Canada and fish for them up there. 4 pounders like the one in my pic are common. Ivie I wish I could catch them year round though.

The bass on Lake Martin are moving shallower. Three weeks ago if you found fish they were in 25 to 45 feet of water or deeper. My biggest fish were caught in 45+ on a drop shot. This past Monday early in the day I found fish in 20 to 25 feet. Later in the day they moved up in the 10 to 15 foot depths. I caught all of my fish off of rocky points. The fish with the warmer weather should be in those shallow water areas. Still fish the points but broaden your search to some of the sandy flats as well.

I agree with that sentiment.

Yeah the spots are. They are much more aggressive than largemouths. Personally I think the largemouth population would improve if the lake had some type of grass for the fry to hide in.

Find the baitfish and you’ll find the bass. Yesterday I started fishing the rocky shorelines but couldn’t find any fish. I started moving into deeper water and still didn’t see any baitfish or any other fish on my graphs. It wasn’t until I got into 32ft of water did I see my first signs of life. At 35ft I came across large numbers of baitfish and bass. I used a 1 oz jigging spoon and caught a couple in about an hour. I switched to a drop shot with a 4” finesse worm and caught seven and lost 4 or five more. I only caught spotted bass. The largemouths on Martin continue to elude me. There were no big fish caught as the average size was no bigger than 1 1/2lbs.

You gotta stop being bad. At least you didn’t get switches too!

I’d do that near the mouths of creek’s which the Shad. They like it there this time of year. Al’s try near the dam. If you have a depth/fish finder you can find schools of Shad and then cast your net over them.
