The two Lake Erie fishermen who touched off a national story when they stuffed weights in fish during a tournament last fall have been sentenced to 10 days in jail as well as a suspension of their fishing license. They will also forfeit the $130,000 boat they won in prior fishing tournaments.

Jacob Runyan, 43, and Chase Cominsky, 36, were caught after fishing in the Lake Erie Walleye Trail tournament last September. The duo had drawn some suspicion throughout the prior months for their unexpectedly bountiful run of heavy fish in previous tournaments. Among their winnings was the fishing boat used during the tournament, a boat with an estimated worth of $130,000.

When they brought their catch in to be weighed, the Lake Erie Walleye Trail tournament director noticed that the fish appeared to weigh much more than fish of that size ought to weigh. He cut open the fish, and as filets and lead weights spilled out, the official called out, "We got weights in fish!"

In all, 10 weights were stuffed inside the walleyes, eight weighing 12 ounces and two weighing eight ounces. Police responded to the scene, and the two were ordered to leave the area. Had they won, they would have taken home a total prize of $28,760.

Soon afterward, the duo was arrested and the boat seized. This past March, both men pleaded guilty to one count of cheating, a felony, and one count of unlawful ownership of wild animals.

In addition to the jail sentence and the forfeiture, the two will be serving 1 1/2 years' probation and will be subject to the maximum fishing license suspension possible.

“I have no doubt that these two crooks cheated in multiple tournaments over the last several years. Unfortunately, we can only hold them accountable for what they did on September 30, 2022,” said Cuyahoga County prosecutor Michael C. O’Malley. “Although these two deserve to have their fishing license suspended for life, the law only allows a maximum of three years. These two should be banned from every fishing tournament for life.”

I was just going to post that then I saw that you beat me to it. Saved me from trying to figure out how to do it. I'm not to tech savvy when it comes to that especially on my phone.

I think after they serve their court ordered time that if they try to show up in any type of tournament that participants will be on them. Not only that tournament officials have had to revise their rules to safeguard against violators.

I've always wanted a small boat. My nephew gave me a 14' aluminum Grumman boat for Christmas. I sent the 9.9 Johnson motor to the local marina and replaced the water pump and changed the gear oil. Bought a new battery and filled the gas tank and added the 2 cycle oil. Had them go over it and they told me it was in very good condition. Ok...so I registered the boat and trailer and added it to our insurance policy. Well now that its ready to go right? I had an epiphany....I don't t know ANYTHING about unloading, loading or operating it. I've watched dozens of You Tube videos but they were not very informative. So here I am asking if anyone would be willing to spend a day with me and teach me what I need to know. I am willing to pay for your time and you get a day on the water. I am in North East Ohio very close to Walborn Resevoir. Thanks in advance

Hi Bruce, I just got got on here after a you could say a long day. I was reading all the replies and I thought I'd reply. I could maybe spend a weekend with you. I live in Alliance and when I get a chance to go I fish both Deer Creek and Walborn. Only thing Deer Creek is electric only. I know Walborn has a good boat launch. Main thing is to enjoy it it. The more you can take it out the more comfortable you'll get doing it. The most important part tho is safety first. The replies are good from everyone. Curtis @ C&M Locksmithing

If try to start you probably don't want to dry start it . You need to have the prop in a water barrel or tub as that's part of the cooling system. Without the water they heat up very quickly and ruin it.

Welcome to FS, looks like Ladue would have some good fishing. You shore fish or boat? Looks like a boat ramp off of Washington St. You could check a local bait shop to see if they have any reports. Good luck and enjoy.

What do you expect from such simple creatures? Your last name stays put. The garage is all yours. Wedding plans take care of themselves. Chocolate is just another snack. You can never be pregnant. You can wear a white T-shirt to a water park. You can wear NO shirt to a water park.

Car mechanics tell you the truth. The world is your urinal. You never have to drive to another gas station restroom because this one is just too icky. You don't have to stop and think of which way to turn a nut on a bolt. Wrinkles add character. Wedding dress - $5,000. Tux rental - $100. People never stare at your chest when you're talking to them New shoes don't cut, blister, or mangle your feet. One mood all the time. Phone conversations are over in 30 seconds flat. You know stuff about tanks.

A five-day vacation requires only one suitcase. You can open all your own jars. You get extra credit for the slightest act of thoughtfulness. If someone forgets to invite you, he or she can still be your friend. Your underwear is $8.95 for a three-pack. Two pairs of shoes are more than enough. You almost never have strap problems in public. You are unable to see wrinkles in your clothes. Everything on your face stays its original color. The same hairstyle lasts for years, maybe decades. You only have to shave your face and neck.

You can play with toys all your life. One wallet and one pair of shoes - one color for all seasons. You can wear shorts no matter how your legs look. You can 'do' your nails with a pocket knife. You have freedom of choice concerning growing a mustache... You can do Christmas shopping for 25 relatives on December 24 in 25 minutes.

No wonder men are happier!

Mix a cup of flour with a cup of yellow corn meal. Add vanilla, water and sugar. Then put quarter sized dough balls in boiling water for 3 minutes. It’s much easier to use canned whole kernel corn instead of making dough balls.

Another thing that helps is mixing cotton balls in the dough to help hold it together. I remember my dad did that when I was a young boy.

That sentence is NOT enough of a deterant to stop or even hesitate for them or others to cheat again !!! They needed to be made a major example of !! Stuffing lead weights has been done for years because the penalties haven't been strict enough to make the cheaters think twice !!!

They fixed that. All tournament fish will be scanned and thoroughly checked. Sounds like they're going to be stricter.

What I would do is cover the desired area with blue painters tape making sure that tape extends at least 2 inches beyond the desired diameter of the cut. I would use a holesaw bit with a Milwaukee style angle drill, much easier to control than a hand drill. I would stay away from using a jigsaw, the blade pulls up and down as it cuts, could lead to chipping the fiberglass and won’t be as accurate of a cut.Use the angle drill on low speed and let the holesaw do the cutting, don’t put pressure on the drill motor. Take your time. I have holesaw bits in 4&6 inch. I’m not certain if a five inch bit is available, might need to look into that. Also if u choose to use a hand drill make sure that it has a 1/2 chuck to utilize a holesaw bit of that diameter. Hope this helps and good luck!👍

Most hardware stores that have plumbing tools have pretty much the sizes that you need. You could check to see what they have.
