Great Pics!!! Reminded me of a sad story about 30 years ago. I collected and brought and sold Antiques. A old guy said his late wife collected Cats!!! Went to his house. it was full of cats!!! Thousands in every corner of the house. Salt and peppers shakers everything that looked like a cat!!! I told him I was sorry but I wasn't interested. I left the house by his carport. Hanging from the beams were a couple hundred old fishing lures. hooks rusted badly. lures didn't weather well outside!! I asked where he got them? He said his older brother had a bait shop back in the 50's 60's Closed it in 67. I asked if he still had the boxes?? He said he thru them out after hanging the lures!! I didn't say a word about the loss!! All he was left with were thousands of cats staring at him.

Another story near the Sugar Bowl!! at Kelly's Landing Sheldon and I fished for Smelt there at the dock. A tour boat tied up there had a recorded loud speaker saying "TAKE A COOL AND ENJOYABLE CRUISE OF BOSTON HARBOR!! AAAAAADULTS 50 CENTS CHILDREN UNDER TWELVE 25!! STEP RIGHT DOWN AND COME ABOARD!! THE BOAT WILL BE LEAVING SHORTLY!!!" Over and over!! The boat didn't leave til it was full!!! sometimes over an hour!! My friend still Sheldon and I can repeat it to this day over 60 years later!!! He calls me the Old Man. I was born in Jan. he was born in March of 46.

Another funny but hurting story from the Sugar Bowl!!! Sheldon and I were fishing there when 2 very young boys were fishing with their father!! One was baiting his older brothers hook when somehow his brother's finger got hooked!!! All I can remember is one brother running to his father saying his brother was hooked pulling his brother right behind him because he still had the rod!!!

Back to the Sugar Bowl!!in the 60's Funny but sad story!! Sheldon and I was fishing there when this retired guy came there to fish for the first time!! "He told us later about being retired" He set up his surf rod and baited it and cast out with a too heavy a weight for his line and SNAP it broke!!Again he set up and Snap again!! He asked us what he was doing wrong?? We're kids but we set him up with a lighter weight and he cast out great but his top section the rod came off and went out with cast!!! He was upset but we said just reel in and it will come back to you!!! He thanked us and twisted it back in!!! NEXT CAST SNAP!!! He packed up and left!!!
Retirement and Fishing isn't for everyone!!
I'll always remember that!! and hope his next attempt at retirement was better!!!

I had a Pflueger spinning reel similar to that one back in the 50's fishing the Sugar Bowl in South Boston!! Catching Mackerel!!! Great Memories except for that idiot that would cast his line across all of us with bobbers to fish the bottom as they were running thru!!

Great Story!! Mine is a little different. My father had 6 months to go in the Army when USA joined in WWII. He joined during the Depression. He was 34 years old and sent to England with the engineers to build landing fields in England and France!!
He always joked that the Army didn't want older guys on the front lines because if a Young Officer asked them to attack a position!!! Men of his age would think and say why??
He married my Mother who was 17. I had a younger brother born William born in 44 who was killed by a V-2 rocket that hit the farmhouse!! My father was in France and asked for leave to go to the funeral. denied!! So he hitched a ride on a plane back to England!! Charged with desertion he left the Service as a Buck Private!! Same rank as he went in 35. I was born in Jan 46 Came to USA on a Troopship with my mother when I was 6 months old!!
Side note!! I was drafted in 65 and went to Nam!! I applied for a passport in 84. Sent them my birth cert. and DD214 and was denied because of my British Birth Cert. So I thought I'll get a British Certificate but the British Embassy said they passed a law in 1972 that if my father was British and my Mother was American I could get one!!! Trapped between 2 Countrys!!!
