Just started Kayak fishing in Mosquito Lagoon in Central Florida. I'm told it holds saltwater and freshwater species. Depth is another challenge. Best Baits, live and lures, what to target in summer months would be a great help. The Dolphins in the lagoon are a great relaxer too, unkless they decide bumping the yak is the days game. Tipped me over more than once. Then I walk and drag the yak 50 yards and I'm pushing past the breakers surf fishing FROM THE OCEAN SIDE. My best days. The lagoon baffles, the surf I got! Help an old fella out !!

Remember that Black Tip Reef Sharks are about the only ones you can keep. You catch a hammerhead, no matter the size, let it go ASAP and don't even be caught with a picture of it. Those black tips are good eating though.

Do not use a stringer, ever in the canal. Gators need to be looked for yes, but we have a cornucopia of poisonous water snakes and rattlers that love the canals. It's those critters to look for.
Quite frankly, if it's brushy and you can't see all the way through to the ground or water....don't go there. Find a nice shore spot with 180 degree site line and fish away. Depending how far from the salt water, Bull sharks cruise the canals looking for easy meals even though it's mixed salt and fresh...brackish. Good luck and use 20LB test at least.
